The Shamballa Impacts

Their Esoteric Astrology in World History

Each Shamballa impact in history has caused drastic and unprecedented change. Here the Shamballa tradition is broadly traced through Earth’s ancient occult history, focusing on the last three major impacts, including that of the year 2000. Shamballa is a “Place of Peace” and the “Centre Where the Will of God is Known”, whose Purpose is only now being revealed as Humanity become more receptive to its impulse.

Esoteric Astrology and Shamballa are therefore most complementary as two emerging and unfolding aspects of the Ancient Wisdom in contemporary human expression. The revised version has much new material: ‘Shamballa Comes Full Circle’, the Sixth Rootrace and the role of Brazil and South America. There is also an essay on Pluto in Capricorn that relates to the ongoing Shamballa impacts.

Further Explanation of The Shamballa Impacts

The first Shamballa impact direct to Humanity helped establish the evolution of consciousness in the Human Race.

The second Shamballa impact much later in history caused the Great Flood and resulting destruction of the ancient race of Atlantis.

The third Shamballa impact brought on the rapid development of the past 200 years and culminated with World Wars I & II, a karmic recapitulation of the Atlantean conflict.

The fourth Shamballa impact in 1975 accelerated the rapid expansion of the computer and technology revolutions, removing also many dictators from their tyrannical rule.

The fifth Shamballa impact direct to Humanity is the year 2000, particularly focused at the Taurus full moon, known as the Wesak festival in the East.

What changes can Humanity look forward to, as a result of this impact, and take advantage of this unique and culminating time for the West, initiated some 2,500 years ago in the East during the time of the Buddha?

“Phillip Lindsay writes in a style that is clear, penetrating and enjoyable to read.” Lawson Bracewell – astrologer, counsellor, group leader. Seven Ray Foundation New Zealand.

“Congratulations on a well written and informative book… illuminating.” Aggie Lim, director – Esoteric Sciences Creative Education Foundation. (ESCEF)

“Phillip Lindsay, an astrologer and long time student of the Ageless Wisdom, has given us a timely and interesting historical view of these Shamballic visitations. The book is essentially divided into three sections: The first part discusses the myth and legend of Shamballa as found in the Alice Bailey books and those of the Buddhist Kalachakra teachings. The second section, constituting the heart of the book and which I found to be the most fascinating, examined the Shamballa impacts and their effects on history.

While avoiding much detail, Lindsay provides an artful synthesis of relevant information together with appropriate quotes from the Bailey material, along with his observations. As an esoteric historian myself, I found his analysis of the key dates from 1825, when we are told that the third direct connection between Shamballa and humanity took place, and other events such as the founding of the Theosophical Society, the emerging of the New Group of World Servers, and the turning point of World War II, through to the most recent Wesak festival to be most interesting and helpful.

The final chapters deal with certain astrological considerations related to Shamballa. The book is richly illustrated with astrological charts, and other tabulations, many of which are found in the thirty pages of appendices near the back of the book. There is also a very good glossary of key terms. Perhaps the real value of beautifully produced little book is a reference source for information on Shamballa. It is certainly a book that will not sit far from my writing desk.”

Excerpts

(Readers bear in mind that some of these excerpts refer to detailed interpretations of the seventeen horoscopes in this book.)

p.16 – Recent film footage and photographs by various Western travellers of the outer ceremony have proved the exact features of this valley as described by Alice Bailey in her vision of the inner ceremony.

It is at this festival that Sanat Kumara links with the Buddha and the Christ in a triangle of force, whereby the directing energies from Shamballa pour through to the Masters assembled in the valley and eventually to Humanity. Mount Kailash (Kailas) strikes a formidable outline from the Wesak Valley, with its snow–capped pyramidal summit:

Kailas forms the hub of the two most important civilisations of the world, whose traditions remained intact for thousands of years: India and China. To Hindus and Buddhists alike, Kailas is the centre of the universe. It is called Meru or Sumeru, according to the oldest Sanskrit tradition, and is regarded as not only the physical but metaphysical centre of the world. Mount Meru forms the axis of the various planes of the supramundane worlds. Thus to Hindus Kailas is the seat of Siva. Kailas forms the spire of the ‘Roof of the World’ as the Tibetan plateau is called…

Note the association with Shiva, who is the Ray 1 expression of the Hindu trinity—Shiva, Krishna (Love–Wisdom) and Brahma (Active–Intelligence). Hence the appropriateness of the proximity of Mount Kailash to a valley where the Will of God is invoked on Earth. More on Kailash will be investigated in the later section relating to the Pole Star.

p.20 – The Kalachakra mandala is a cosmogram of the outer and inner worlds in idealised form, free from imperfections.

In Sanskrit, ‘kala’ means ‘time’ and ‘chakra’ is ‘wheel’. ‘Kala–chakra’, therefore, is ‘The Wheel of Time’; it is a process and an event.

The Wheel of Time implies cycles and therefore astrology, the Science of Cycles. Saturn of course, rules astrology and cycles generally, and is also the Lord of Karma.

When the Wheel turns full circle, karma is reaped by Saturn’s ‘sickle’; perhaps there is a connection here with the word ‘cycle’: Saturn harvests karma with his sickle, which delineates the end of one cycle and the start of a new one.

p.23-The basic text of the Kalachakra system is the Kalachakra Tantra, first of the Books of Kiu Te. This latter text happens to be the skeleton of ancient stanzas upon which The Secret Doctrine is based. (Apparently there is also a voluminous commentary by Vimalaprabha on the Books of Kiu Te.)

It is generally acknowledged that DK is one of the foremost Kalachakra masters of Tibet…

p.28 – The horoscope for the full moon of Taurus (Wesak) 1825 shows Pluto in Aries—a Ray 1 planet in a Ray 1 sign. Pluto trines Jupiter in Leo—a Ray 2 planet in a Ray 1 sign, and may reflect the withdrawing of Ray 2, and the waxing of Ray 1.

The Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century, conditioned by a Ray 3 cycle that started in 1425, and a Ray 5 cycle which started in 1775, was really given its catalytic ‘kick start’ by this ‘touch of Shamballa’. Rays 1, 3 and 5 are of course, all on the odd ray line…

p.35 – As the Taurus/Scorpio axis conditions World Aspirants and Disciples, horoscopes depicting Ray 1 energy and their spiritual effect upon the disciples and aspirants of the world, may perhaps symbolically be set for Darjeeling.

Darjeeling takes its name from the Tibetan ‘rdo–rje’ (pronounced ‘dorjay’) which means ‘master or king of stones’, i.e. the diamond; hence the ‘Vajrayana’ or ‘Diamond Vehicle’ of Buddhism, a path to enlightenment.

p.39 – The Sun (1875 Wesak) is also conjunct Alcyone, one of the seven Pleiades, known as the ‘central spiritual sun’. This conjunction of the Sun and Alcyone is also a feature of the Wesak 2000 chart and will be dealt with later.

The Pleiades and Taurus are closely related to the idea of light and illumination, the ‘third’ or ‘mother’ aspect. The dissemination of the Ageless Wisdom by the Masters at this time through HPB, although of a Ray 1 quality, can also be seen from a Ray 3 angle too, stimulating the Active Intelligence of Humanity and Disciples in the world.

p.45 – Recall also that in 1875 Isis Unveiled was published; DK took his Master’s initiation; and group service was commenced upon the astral plane for the dissipation of glamour in the world.

There are three important dates that fall on the three arms of the Fixed Cross in 1875, which highlight the impetus of a new cycle of Ray 1 and Shamballa energy: Taurus, Leo and Scorpio.

p.53 -The NGWS expresses itself through the ajna centre of the Lord of the World, or Sanat Kumara. As Taurus is the ruling energy of the NGWS, it means this group is conditioned strongly by Ray 4 which comes through Taurus, the ray which also conditions Humanity as a whole.

Therefore the Wesak festival, held at the full moon of May every year, is particularly important for the relationship between the NGWS and Hierarchy; but also the NGWS acting as a mediator between Hierarchy and Humanity.

Taurus also highlights the theme of desire and its control, manifesting as the major pairs of opposites upon the astral plane; problems with which the aspirants and disciples who compose this group must deal.

p.59 – DK’s dramatic statement about “the terrific onslaught of the powers of evil” underlines the critical nature of this period of the War, which continued to December 1942.

Gemini is the sign of the Festival of the Christ, during which time He has a particularly close relationship to Humanity. Humanity is also conditioned generally by the Gemini/Sagittarius axis, where harmony between all extremes must be found.

The full Moon in Sagittarius falls exactly on the star Antares…

p.61 – The fabrication of the “gossamer thread” between Shamballa and Hierarchy was a stupendous event in the history of the planet and the work of the Christ. Christ’s Gethsemane experience culminated during this time period 1936–1945:

Christ’s evocation of the fire of the will was initiated symbolically in the Garden of Gethsemane. He has twice symbolically shown His individual response to the Shamballa energy: Once in the Temple of Jerusalem as a

p.63 – The ‘Sun moving northward’ refers to the Capricorn winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the Sun’s astronomical movement toward the spring equinox after the period of greatest darkness of the winter—seasonally and metaphysically: Humanity’s greatest hour of darkness had passed.

Therefore the “four months when the members of the spiritual Hierarchy had made every possible arrangement to withdraw from human contact” must have been from August to December of 1942.

p.75 – Pluto is prominent yet again with a close trine to the Sun. Saturn in Cancer at the point of a T–square in the seventh house, speaks much of Humanity’s karmic plight and “those difficult conditions and situations which lead to the needed struggle”; as well as the critical decisions made that would mean much sacrifice “in order to salvage the lives with which it had an affinity”.

p.83 – The actual bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 culminated all the Pluto positions in charts just discussed. The horoscope for the event has a Sun/Pluto conjunction in Leo (a Ray 1 double ‘signature’) and Uranus (uranium) dominates the Midheaven.

It is appropriate that Pluto has been so active in the twentieth century. Pluto, esoteric ruler of Pisces, has been most active in the last years (up to 2117AD), destroying all the limiting crystallised forms built up not only in the past Piscean Age, but from many precessional ages before.

p.87 – The major meetings in San Francisco for the establishment of the United Nations (UN) also took place from April to June 1945—basically over the three major spiritual festivals of Aries, Taurus and Gemini.

By 24 October 1945, the charter for the UN was signed and came into force—with a Scorpio Sun—emblematic of all the Plutonian forces that had shaped its emergence, as well as being the sign of the World Disciple:

[Shamballa]…is the energy which brings about synthesis, which holds all things within the circle of the divine love. Since its impact during the past few years, human thinking has been more concerned with the production of unity and the attainment of synthesis in all human relations than ever before, and one result of this energy has been the forming of the United Nations.

Note the strong stellium in Libra, the Peacemaker, and sign related to Shamballa. Hopefully this young entity expresses the Will of God—that of Right Human Relationships—as it grows and evolves.

p.93 – Chart Analysis for Wesak 2000

The Month of May is one of deepest significance to all who are affiliated with the Great White Lodge (as are all true esotericists) in that the Wesak Festival takes place and is of moment and deep import. The period is always one of prime interest and rare opportunity…

One of the most fascinating points to consider is that the Shamballa impact of Wesak 2000 is the fifth direct to humanity in the history of the evolution of human consciousness. Therefore it is most complimentary to the sign Taurus, ruled by Venus, also ruler of Ray 5.

p.96 – The scene is set in the next 25 years for much conflict in the realm of ideas, where old ways of thinking may be completely destroyed, such as in dogmatic religions, particularly Islam, Christianity and Judaism. The fanaticism of some of these religions may reach a point of world crisis that calls for extreme measures.

Pluto in Sagittarius, ruler of the Destroyer Ray, opposing Mars/Mercury, will get a real boost from this Shamballa impact.

p.109 – Again, this statement recalls Saturn as the Lord of Time and Karma, who precipitates the turning of the wheel which creates cyclic time.

The Lord of Karma (and hence Time) sits at the centre of the wheel (laya centre) where there is no time, “in intermediate space where the twelve zodiacal energies meet and cross”. As a propelling agent of karma, the motion of the wheel is generated from past causes.

Saturn, exalted in Libra, governs the ‘free choice’ of reversing the wheel for an aspirant. Later, this opportunity is presented again on a higher turn of the evolutionary spiral for an initiate:

The crisis of the burning ground, which is brought about through the activity of Uranus [soul ruler of Libra]. This is entered through the free choice of the initiate who makes his choice in Libra, the point of balance where—usually—the moment for the reversal of the wheel takes place. There the man has to decide whether to proceed as usual and according to custom or, reversing the wheel, to pass through the burning ground to liberation. Libra is the polar opposite to Aries and therefore closely related.

p.113 – Saturn is associated with the building of centres of energy (laya centres or chakras) because of its organising and materialising qualities which are able to bring a three–fold nucleus of life into form: the consolidation and crystallisation of a (divine) thought–form.

p.117 – Thus HPB interprets Ezekiel’s vision of the Wheel of the zodiac, as described in the Bible in the first chapters of the book of Ezekiel.

Note that while DK later talks of Leo–Virgo as one sign, here Virgo–Scorpio are considered as being one before the interpolation of Libra.

p.122 – The mill is the crusher of the grain (Virgo) of the Autumn harvest in the northern hemisphere, and after it is weighed in the scales of Libra. The grain is symbolic of souls who are ‘grist for the mill’; whose cycle of karma is harvested.

The connotations further extend to the saying ‘been through the mill’, or a ‘millstone around one’s neck’—Saturn applying the Law.

The Pole Star is where the ‘axle of the mill’ periodically aligns itself. At the moment it is Polaris, but because of the wobble of the Earth that causes the precession of the equinoxes,151 other stars such as Vega and Draco will be the Pole Star at various intervals over a 26,000 year cycle.

This 26,000 year cycle is called the ‘Great Year’ and is indeed an inner subjective cycle within which the soul plans and appropriates its incarnations.
