Sacrifice and Service
What does it mean in the above keynote for Pisces, “I leave the father”s home?” The “father”s home” can be the Master and the ashram upon the inner planes of which you are a member, or are drawn toward because of your ray affiliations and your aspiration to service. The “father”s home” is also occultly the Monad, that highest essence of ourselves that utilizes the soul to incarnate, just as the soul takes on a personality in each succeeding incarnation.
Whichever sign we are, the annual cycle gives everybody the opportunity to invoke all the zodiac signs; hence opportunity presents itself in Pisces. Whatever degree of liberation achieved thus far upon your path, the underlying Piscean theme for “leaving the Father”s home” is one of sacrifice and service to others who seek to free themselves from the ocean of matter and the desire of ages.
Hence Pisces the “world saviour” in a Buddha of Compassion – who renounces nirvana in order to save; or the Lord of the World, Sanat Kumara (SK), who holds his position as the “Silent Watcher” on this planet – until the “last weary pilgrim has found his way home.”
“This is His [SK] heavy karma even whilst it is an expression of His desire and of His joy; the “weary pilgrims” are the atoms (human or otherwise) in His body, and they are tainted with imperfection because of His imperfections; their complete “healing” will set the term for His release.”1
Our “complete healing” is the path upon which many of us have embarked. As we redeem our own natures, so we contribute to the reclamation of greater soul consciousness and service within ourselves, our families, communities, groups and nations. This is partly what The Christ did, working through his disciple Jesus 2,000 years ago. The Christ was the Avatar of the Piscean Age and will uniquely and unusually play that role again, inaugurating the Age of Aquarius.
“The personalities of the “weary pilgrims on the Way” are indeed tired and worn. Humanity today is very weary. The vehicles have been used for many cycles and their potency (in a positive sense) is wearing out, which is the approaching goal. For long cycles, the soul has been negative in its effect upon the personality, and the personal equipment has been the positive expression of the spiritual man.
Then that lower aggregation of forces begins to wear down; its vibration weakens and, because much of the consciousness is still identified with the body nature, the disciple is conscious of fatigue, pain, distress and a deep weariness. It has been the “personality fatigue” of the human race which partially was responsible for the excessive misery complex, the sense of inferiority, and the pining-for-release psychology of the Christian presentation of truth.”2
“The tethered fishes swim round and round
In endless cycles, bound by sound…
Lord Pluto waits to destroy their ties
To liberate a love so prized.
For from the waters we must emerge
Drag up the beach from the surge…
Weary traveller your Shepherd calls
To tread the luminous Shamballa halls.”3
Little Dorrit: Little Buddha
The Charles Dickens story4 of Little Dorritt is a satire about the shortcomings of the government and society of Britain in the mid 1800″s. Amy Dorrit is the main character of the story, whose father is incarcerated in a debtor”s prison. Prisons are the province of Pisces, whether they are the prisons that we internally sentence ourselves to, or the more obvious outer ones. Hence Pisces is profoundly related to prisons and eventual liberation from them.
Amy Dorrit is a classic Piscean character who is intensely devoted to her father’s well being in prison. She endures ongoing misunderstanding and criticism from her father and those around her. But her one persistent and undying quality is unconditional love. You will not enjoy a better story where “love in action” is so nobly portrayed in the face of the bigotry, intense social snobbery and greed of nineteenth century London.
In many ways, Amy Dorrit redeems her whole environment, her family and community, melting the hardest and most stifled hearts; even the villain of the story is touched deeply and ultimately helps her.
It may sound like a platitude to speak of unconditional love, yet it is the highest and hardest goal for Humanity to achieve. Saint Paul, that great Initiate (and now Master), speaks movingly of The Way of Compassion in Corinthians (Note: Substitute the word “charity” for “love”.):
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”5
Pisces-Virgo and the Fifth Rootrace
Whenever any zodiac sign is examined, its polar opposite must always be brought into account when balancing the pairs of opposites. Humanity finds itself not only at the end of the Fifth Rootrace but also the end of the Age of Pisces. The Fifth Rootrace has been ruled by the “odd ray line” three and five, along the mental path of expression. Virgo in its lower aspect represents the critical separative mind, hence combined with the odd rays, has produced a distinct lack of love in this current transition cycle. Virgo in this respect can tend to be as critical and unforgiving, as much as the fifth ray is coldly unsympathetic, and harshly judgmental.
So when we seek to love unconditionally, we must ask ourselves, “what do I hate or despise”? What attitudes do I cultivate, that create separation and division? Is it a certain ethnic group who have a lifestyle, values or belief system that is abhorrent to me? Is it some political figure? Is it some individual you do not know, or your closest co-workers – where some of these issues arise the most intensely? We carry so many conditionings from many lives, let alone the cultural layers built up within this life, making it very challenging to face all these aspects of the Human Dweller.
Yet Pisces embraces all, destroys all and creates anew. This is where the advanced Piscean must invoke the forces of esoteric ruler Pluto, ruthlessly rooting out the weeds in the soul’s garden; destroying the old samskaras, facing Kali head on, lowering the head in humility and allowing the axe to drop.
When Pluto has purged, Pisces rulers Jupiter and Neptune bring a re-fill of the fresh water of Love-Wisdom. So, how successful have you been in your yearly cycle of invoking the Piscean forces of transmutation and compassion? In this last part of the cycle of the spiritual year, how many impediments have you destroyed – before the “spiritual new year” begins, soon in Aries? This is the annual opportunity, to destroy the past and refuel afresh.
Pisces and Psychic Sensitivity
Of all the water signs, Pisces is the primary sign of psychic sensitivity. Many psychics (lower and higher) have been born under this sign: Edgar Cayce, Rudolph Steiner and Geoffrey Hodson, to name a few of the more occultly oriented. Djwhal Khul calls mystic Pisces the “medium and the mediator”:
“… expanding Christ-consciousness … This is the higher aspect of the energy of Pisces; it is awareness of the group, of the whole and of the universe. It is the energy of buddhi, the higher aspect of the lower psychic nature; it is the aspect of the mediator in contradistinction to the medium. It is intuitional control …”6
Geoffrey Hodson (only Sun in Pisces), was an English theosophist who spent a good deal of his time in New Zealand. His writings deal with occultism in general, particularly the angelic or deva kingdom and the subtle worlds. His esoteric knowledge, combined with clairvoyant vision, has provided a rich bounty for many students of the ageless wisdom.
(L. to R.) Geoffrey Hodson, Rudolph Steiner and Edgar Cayce.
Edgar Cayce, the “sleeping prophet”, made thousands of personal readings and observations. He was Pisces rising with Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Venus and Moon’s node all in Pisces. He also had the Moon in Taurus conjunct Pisces ruler Neptune, so an extremely watery chart!
Yet as a “trance channel” he was subject to many entities from the astral plane who would “jump in” or “take over”, having their say, hence he was by no means “pure”. Apparently Cayce said as much after passing over to the other side and communicating back to another person. (Forget the reference.) So was Cayce an “ordinary low-grade medium”? He was educated to the eighth grade and was an intensely devoted Christian. So he was developed mentally, but as a trance medium, he allowed himself to be possessed by a host of entities ranging from low grade to a higher calibre. There are several aspects of the following description which fit Cayce:
“The ordinary low-grade medium is the outstanding example of the worst aspects of Pisces – negativity, impressionability, animal and emotional sensitivity with complete undevelopment of the mental principle. It would be of interest to find out two things scientifically:
1. Whether the majority of the lowest kind of medium (trance mediums in particular) have Pisces dominant in some powerful manner in their charts.
2. Whether those mediums who are becoming more positive and more self-controlled and who are beginning to get a glimpse of the higher correspondences in their work – mediatorship and interpretive activity – have not got Virgo appearing somewhere with real potency and activity. [Cayce only had Earth in Virgo, Steiner had Moon and Saturn in Virgo, Hodson Mars in Virgo.]
This might indicate the awakening of the mind, in the first instance, and eventually that there was a shift in the influence controlling them, from the orthodox planetary rulership to that of the more esoteric planets. It might be added that spiritualism and the work of the spiritualistic movement are under the influence of Pisces with Cancer rising, or in some stages with the reverse
– Cancer with Pisces rising.”7
Cancer shares in common with Pisces the fact that they are water signs, and that Neptune, god of the waters, is Cancer”s esoteric ruler and Pisces” exoteric ruler.
David Wilcock claims to be a reincarnation of Edgar Cayce and like Cayce, has the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Pisces,8 nothing in Virgo except Earth; he also has Moon in Taurus like Cayce. Unlike Cayce, Wilcock attempts to back up his work on ancient wisdom through modern science. Nevertheless, on the claims of being a reincarnated Cayce, one would not expect similar charts like this to manifest, however it is possible.
Of course all “channels” or psychics are subject to the limitations of what has or has not been raised to a higher frequency, particularly in the astral body, the main receptor of impressions for psychics. The degrees of purity for Steiner have also been debated amongst esoteric students. Hence the “major problem” of Pisces that DK relates to us, psychic sensitivity – needing to be transformed on several levels:
“It is in this dual sign that the imprisoned soul and the personality enter upon that process which will transmute,
1. The lower nature into the higher manifestation.
2. The lower psychical powers into the higher spiritual faculties, i.e.
a. Negativity into positive soul control.
b. Mediumship into mediatorship.
c. Clairvoyance into spiritual perception.
d. Clairaudience into mental telepathy and finally inspiration.
e. Instinct into intellect.
f. Selfishness into divine selflessness.
g. Acquisitiveness into renunciation.
h. Self-preservation into selfless world service.
i. Self-pity into compassion, sympathy and divine understanding.
3. Spiritual and mental inhibition into soul expression and mental sensitivity.
4. Devotion to the needs of the self into developed devotion and response to the needs of humanity.
5. Attachment to environment and to personality conditions (identification with form) into detachment from form and ability to identify with the soul.”9
George Washington: Pisces, President and Prophet
The USA”s first president is well known as a leader and commander, yet his alleged visionary experience at Valley Forge is equally extraordinary. Here is an account of an angelic visitation and Washington’s subsequent vision for the future of the United States of America:10
“… as I was sitting at this table engaged in preparing a dispatch, something in the apartment seemed to disturb me. Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful being. So astonished was I, for I had given strict orders not to be disturbed that it was some moments before I found language to inquire the cause of the visit. A second, a third, and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of the eyes.”
“By this time I felt strange sensations spreading through me. I would have risen but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to speak, but my tongue had become useless, as if paralyzed. A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitor.”
“Gradually the surrounding atmosphere seemed to fill with sensations, and grew luminous. Everything about me seemed to rarefy, the mysterious visitor also becoming more airy and yet more distinct to my sight than before. I began to feel as one dying, or rather to experience the sensations, which I have sometimes imagined, accompany death. I did not think, I did not reason, I did not move. All were alike impossible. I was only conscious of gazing fixedly, vacantly at my companion.”
FIRST GREAT PERIL
“Presently I heard a voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn,” while at the same time my visitor extended an arm eastward. I now beheld a heavy white vapor at some distance rising fold upon fold. This gradually dissipated, and I looked upon a strange scene…”11
Washington, goes on to describe all three “great perils” to befall his nation, click here.. He then continues,
“HEAVEN INTERVENES
“Instantly a light as of a thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel upon whose head still shown the word UNION, and who bore our national flag in one hand, and a sword in the other, descended from the heavens attended by, legions of white spirits.
These immediately joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were well-nigh overcome, but who immediately taking courage again, closed up their broken ranks and renewed the battle.” “Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.” As the voice ceased the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious.”
“Then once more, I beheld the villages, towns and cities springing up where I had seen them before, while the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of them, cried with the loud voice: “While the stars remain, and the heaven send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the UNION last.” And taking from his brow the crown on which blazoned the word “UNION”, he placed it upon the Standard while the people, kneeling down, said “Amen.”
THE INTERPRETATION
The scene instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I, at last saw nothing but the rising, curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappeared, and I found myself once more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who, in the same voice I had heard before, said, “Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted; Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful for her is the third. But the whole world united shall not prevail against her.
Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land, and UNION. “With these words the vision vanished, and I started from my seat and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown me the birth, the progress, and the destiny of the United States.” “Such, my friends,” the venerable narrator concluded, were the words I heard from Washington’s own lips, and America will do well to profit by them.”12
Aries Equinox March 20-21: New Year 2011-2012.
The chart for the spiritual new year in 2011, at zero degrees Aries, is very powerful and positive.
The sun in Aries makes an extremely close conjunction to Uranus, planet of revolution and change. (Uranus is also the hierarchical ruler of Aries.) Uranus and the Sun are close to the seventh house of relationships, whilst Aries esoteric ruler Mercury is in the seventh house with Jupiter. Both these planets oppose Moon and Saturn in Libra, whilst Libra the Peacemaker is also the rising sign or soul potential of the chart.
As ruler of the Libran ascendant, Venus is well placed in Aquarius in terms of new ways of relating. As soul ruler of the Libran ascendant, Uranus is most critical, as it links the Aries personality of the chart to the rising sign, bringing the pairs of opposites into a dynamic relationship, with a potential to bring about lasting changes.
The horoscope speaks of radical and dynamic changes in human relationships that are tailored to suit these unsettled times. There is a spirit of engagement and dialogue, lively to be sure, but with the promise of something new emerging that does not fall back into old survival patterns of behaviour. The ongoing forward thrust of nations liberating themselves is potent.
