The Festival of Humanity or Goodwill
“The Festival of Goodwill. This will be the festival of the spirit of humanity – aspiring towards God, seeking conformity with the Will of God and dedicated to the expression of right human relation. This will be fixed annually in relation to the Full Moon of June. It will be a day whereon the spiritual and divine nature of mankind will be recognised.
On this festival, for two thousand years, the Christ has represented humanity and has stood before the Hierarchy and in the sight of Shamballa as the God-Man, the Leader of His people and “the Eldest in a great family of brothers” (Romans VIII:29).
Each year at that time He has preached the last sermon of the Buddha before the assembled Hierarchy. [More on this later] This will therefore be a festival of deep invocation and appeal, of a basic aspiration towards fellowship, of human and spiritual unity, and will represent the effect in the human consciousness of the work of the Buddha and of the Christ.”1
Gemini is very much a sign of travel, communication, movement and change:
“It is the Gemini influence that has led to the constant movement and restlessness of the British people; which has led them to cross and recross the ocean and to stage a constant going out to the very ends of the earth, to return ever again to the centre from which they came. This is characteristic of the race.”2
Of course it is not only the British who are constantly traveling, virtually the whole world is these days. New Zealand is a Gemini soul and per head of population are some of the most extensive travellers one will always run into Kiwis in far flung places.
Gemini is the gypsy, the traveller, the transient, the wanderer and nomad; it is closely linked to its polar opposite Sagittarius, the sign of long journeys and the expansion of awareness through interaction with other cultures. Due to its mutable nature Gemini at the relatively unawakened stage is also the devious artful dodger, the con-man and trickster; nevertheless, these traits can persist in so-called “advanced souls” – such is the ancient nature of the human shadow or “dweller”.
Gemini and Relationships
Gemini is a sign of communication – that which underlies all relationships. Exoteric astrology considers Libra as the sign of relationships, particularly long term associations or marriage. Venus is the personality ruler of Libra and the soul ruler of Gemini, hence the connection between the two signs along the same theme. Note the passage above about the Gemini festival being dedicated to “right human relation”.
As part of the “common” or mutable cross, Gemini is able to find the common ground that links us all – they have the “common touch”. The dialogue generated from Gemini’s interactions leads to acquaintances and sometimes deeper friendships. Saturn’s exaltation gives Libra the tendency to cultivate the long term relationship. Gemini establishes the link, other forces determine whether that link is tenuous or strengthened over time.
Gemini and the Cosmic Christ
Gemini rules the etheric body, the greater etheric matrix that extends to all corners of the universe; it has an innate sense of connectedness with all life; it is the chameleon who through its adaptability and penchant for communication can be all things to all people. Christ is indeed all things to all people and is the ultimate Gemini:
“I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
Leading up to this statement Christ says: “For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law … as without law, that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak.” (1 Cor. 9:17)
One could even consider the work with His disciple Jesus as a successful collaboration of the Gemini twins. Appropriately, Gemini rules the thymus, the endocrine gland associated with the heart chakra. The thymus is associated with innocence and naivety, two endearing Geminian traits that recall Christ’s words, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt.18:3)
The Christ is the One who holds the “Office of the Christ” on Earth under the auspices of the second ray of love wisdom, the primary ray from which all other rays derive. Gemini also rules the higher prototype of the “cosmic Christ” :
“Because the Ray of Love-Wisdom, the second ray, pours through Gemini it becomes apparent how true is the occult teaching that love underlies the entire universe … This underlying love of Deity reaches our solar system primarily through Gemini, which forms, with the constellation of the Great Bear and the Pleiades, a cosmic triangle. This is the triangle of the cosmic Christ and is the esoteric symbol lying behind the cosmic Cross …
“Upon the golden triangle, the cosmic Christ appeared; His head in Gemini; one foot upon the field of the Seven Fathers [Great Bear] and the other planted in the field of the Seven Mothers [Pleaides].”3
The Great Bear and the Pleiades are usually spoken of in relation to Sirius as they all constitute a major conditioning triangle of energy upon our solar system. The forces of Sirius pour through the two “pillars” of Gemini because Sirius is the source of that Love-Wisdom. It is also the source of the “greater” Great White Lodge that finds its reflection in the Great White Lodge on Earth.
The Christ is the head of the Earthly Lodge; He is “The Bodhisattva, Head of all the religions of the world, the Master of the Masters and the Teacher of angels and of men.”
The Work of the Christ and the Buddha
As mentioned in the earlier passage, the Christ works closely with the Buddha. The previous Wesak Festival for the Buddha is celebrated in the sign Taurus. It is said that the Christ will soon take over the work of the Buddha – a momentous period in history that has great import. The Buddha has been primarily responsible for the East whilst the Christ has had his main jurisdiction in the West. One has a philosophy of God immanent (dwelling within) as in eastern religions, whilst the other of God transcendent (without) as in Christianity.
However, as the world is becoming far less separate in terms of its two hemispheres, due to travel, trade, cultural exchange etc., these distinctions may be blurring somewhat. Christianity has always been regarded esoterically as a bridging religion between Buddhism and that which is to be revealed of Divinity in the dispensation of the Aquarian Age:
“… modern thinkers would do well to bear in mind that the importance of Christianity lies in the realisation that it is a bridging religion. This is symbolised for us by the fact that the Master of all the Masters took incarnation in Palestine, that slice of land which is midway between Asia and Europe, and which partakes of the character of both.
Christianity is the religion of the transitional period which links the era of self-conscious existence with that of a group-conscious world. It is extant in the age which will see that type of thought prevailing which (when rightly applied) will serve as the connecting link between the worlds of concrete and of abstract mind. The Old Commentary puts it thus:
“When the hour arrives wherein the light of the soul reveals the antahkarana (the bridge between the personality consciousness and the soul consciousness) then shall men be known by their knowledge, be coloured by the despair of desire unappeased, be divided into those who recognise their dharma (meet all implied obligations and duties) and those who only see the working out of karma, and from the very nature of their need find light and peace at last.”
Christianity is primarily a religion of cleavage, demonstrating to man his duality and so laying the foundation for future unity. This is a most needed stage and has served humanity well; the purpose and intent of Christianity has been definite and high, and it has done its divine work. Today it is in the process of being superseded, but by what new formulation of truth is not yet revealed.
The light is slowly pouring into man’s life, and in this lighted radiance he will formulate the new religion and arrive at a fresh enunciation of ancient truth. Through the lens of the illumined mind, he will shortly see aspects of divinity hitherto unknown. Has it ever dawned on you that there may be qualities and characteristics of the divine nature, latent as yet within the form, that have hitherto remained totally unknown and not even dimly sensed, and which, as yet, are literally unprecedented and for which we have neither words nor other adequate medium of expression? So it is.
Just as the phrase “group-consciousness” would carry, for early primitive man, no significance whatsoever, and would have been only a meaningless string of alphabetical forms, so (lingering just below the surface of our manifested world) lie divine qualities and a purpose which is as far removed from the consciousness of our present humanity as the idea of collective awareness was from the consciousness of prehistoric humanity. Take courage from this thought. The past guarantees the infinite expansion of the future.”4
Last Sermon of the Buddha
“It has long been a legend (and who shall say it is not a fact?) that at each Full Moon of June, Christ repeats and preaches again to the assembled world (to the hearts and minds of men) the last sermon of the Buddha, thus linking the full enlightenment of the pre-Christian era and the wisdom of the Buddha to the cycle of the distribution of the energy of love, for which Christ is responsible.”5
Hence the appropriateness of the blending of the two festivals Taurus and Gemini and their dissemination in Gemini, a sign of “distribution”. Here are some excerpts from the last sermon (thanks for the inspirational reminder Michael!). Bear in mind that the Buddha’s Taurean message was to point the way to liberation through freeing ourselves from the desire nature, its cravings and addictions:
“Herein, O Ananda, let a brother, as he dwells in the body, so regard the body that he, being strenuous, thoughtful and mindful may, whilst in the world, overcome the grief which arises from the body’s cravings.
… While subject to sensations let him continue so to regard the sensations that he, being strenuous, thoughtful, and mindful, may, whilst in the world, overcome the grief which arises from the sensations.”
And so, also, when he thinks, or reasons, or feels, let him so regard his thought that, being strenuous, thoughtful and mindful, he may, whilst in the world, overcome the grief which arises from the craving due to ideas, or to reasoning, or to feeling.
… Those who, either now or after I am dead, shall be a lamp unto themselves, relying upon themselves only and not relying upon any external help, but holding fast to the truth as their lamp, and seeking their salvation in the truth alone, shall not look for assistance to any one besides themselves, it is they, Ananda, among my bhikshus, who shall reach the very topmost height But they must be anxious to learn.
My age is now full ripe, my life draws to its close: I leave you, I depart, relying on myself alone!
Be earnest then, O brethren, holy, full of thought!
Be steadfast in resolve! Keep watch o’er your own hearts!
Who wearies not, but holds fast to his truth and law,
Shall cross this sea of life, shall make an end of grief.
When the light of gnosis has dispelled the darkness of ignorance, when all existences has been seen as without substance, peace ensues when life draws to an end, which seems to cure along sickness at last. Everything, whether stationary or movable, is bound to perish in the end.
Be ye therefore mindful and vigilant! The time for my entry in Nirvana has now arrived!
There are my last words!
Buddha and Christ: Blending the Moon and Earth Chain Evolutions
The imminent superceding and blending of the Buddha’s position by the Christ marks a milestone in human history, reflecting that the two major evolutions on planet Earth have made a somewhat relative integration and fusion. These two brothers of old took the third degree initiation together back in Atlantean times and have worked closely ever since.
Each planet within the solar system has seven “chains” in its evolution with seven “globes” in each chain making for many incarnations of the Planetary Logos. We are now in the fourth globe of the Fourth (Earth) Chain which was preceded by the Third (Moon) Chain.
The Buddha came from the Moon Chain evolution, that is, “individualised” as a soul upon the Moon chain, whereas the Christ individualised as part of the Earth Chain evolution – back in the Third or Lemurian Rootrace.
This has all been written before but I mention it again now because, a. the context with which we are viewing Gemini; b. this pivotal period in history; c. to bring new readers up to speed with esoteric history.6
Indeed, Gemini was quite prominent at Individualisation in Lemuria, as were the forces of Geminis esoteric ruler Venus, plus those of Sirius:
“… the Sun was in Gemini when the final crisis of individualisation took place7 … Several major triangles of force were active when individualisation took place and the “Lions, the divine and tawny orange Flames” came into being and thus humanity arrived upon the planet. I would touch here briefly upon one triangle: The Sun (second ray), Jupiter (second ray) and Venus (fifth ray).8 … Only one Being (from Sirius) has visited our system and that was at the time of individualisation.”9
The Moon chain evolution was thwarted through various abuses and misuse of energies and “shut down” by the intervention of the Solar Logos, no less. Those souls then to wait in a “pralaya” state for an enormously long cycle before they could resume their physically manifested evolution.
Hence on the Earth Chain they had to wait for the fledgling humanity to evolve and develop somewhat during Lemurian times, before they could come in great numbers during the following/parallel rootrace of Atlantis. The two streams of consciousness from the two evolutions were thus roughly approximated, yet it still caused many divisions and probably contributed greatly to the Atlantean war that is depicted in the Hindu epic, The Mahabharata.
The Earth and Moon chains constitute the two major groupings of souls upon this planet and the latter has always been more advanced and dominating because of its prior development of the mental faculty. However, in this Fifth Rootrace on the Earth Chain, enormous strides in the unfoldment of consciousness have been made by Earth Chain souls – rapidly catching up to the Moon “chainers”.
We are currently in a cycle that has many parallels with the Individualisation period of Lemuria, working on a higher turn of the evolutionary spiral with the forces of Initiation as differentiated from Individualisation per se.
The Christ is the greatest pioneer of Earth Chain souls and has jurisdiction over all the Masters, many of whom are most likely Moon chainers. Therefore Christ holds an unique position and must have gained it through some extraordinary lives; one of which was an earlier incarnation of Krishna in Atlantean times, whilst a more recent one was as another Krishna several thousand years ago. Note the similarity of course between the two names, Krishna and Christ.
The Office of the Christ or World Teacher is usually only held for short periods of about two thousand years, but The (current) Christ is embarking upon an unprecedented two “terms” and is heading the next 2,000 year cycle now starting to unfold.10
It is said that the World Teacher around 8,000 BC was Orpheus who taught with his harp through music and sound. It is interesting that the next in line to take the Office of the Christ is the Master Koot Hoomi – who was Pythagoras in a previous incarnation and who drew heavily on the teachings of Orpheus.
The Importance of Utilising The Great Invocation
“From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.
From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.
From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men –
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.
From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out.
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.
Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.”
As Gemini is related to speech, it is also related to sound. The Science of Mantrams (and sound) is one of the most occult practices of the Gupta Vidya (Occult Knowledge) that one can engage in. The Great Invocation is indeed a very potent mantram and its use, especially by groups of individuals at the time of the full moon can have far-reaching effects:
“The result of this solemn three days of invocation will be followed by a climaxing day wherein the Hierarchy will unitedly, and led by the Christ, pronounce the entire Invocation, prefacing each stanza with its appropriate keynote, again sounded in unison. These notes you cannot know, but if, for instance, a very large number of the New Group of World Servers were brought together, their united OM might approximate the appropriate keynote.”11
Especially at the Gemini full moon,
” … the Festival in June, peculiarly the Festival of the Christ, when He – as Leader of the New Group of World Servers – employs the new Invocation on behalf of all men of goodwill in all lands; at the same time, He gathers up the inchoate and unexpressed demands of those masses who seek a new and better way of life. They want love in daily living, right human relations, and an understanding of the underlying Plan.”12
Some readers may not have used the Great Invocation before, others are more familiar with it. For those who are using it, how effectively are you using it? Right use can range from the degree of concentration to your visualising capacities. If you do not meditate regularly then you may find at the full moon when the critical window of time is available, that you do not have the ability to make the best use of that time due to a distracted or wandering mind.
Hence the inspiration to meditate more regularly in the intervening months to prepare ourselves for the monthly group (or solo) full moon meditations; these festivals create rhythmic markers for tuning into the cycles of the spiritual life.
For those who have not used it, why not experiment and see the power of its effectiveness? Moving past any pre-conditioning around exoteric Christian terms or religion in general, or even the use of the male gender in the Great Invocation may well be a good start.
For beginners and experienced esoteric students alike, one must understand that the word Christ is a powerful mantric syllable and that its use cannot be compromised through so-called political correctness or not wanting to associate with exoteric Christianity etc. Granted, it can be a tricky balancing act utilising this term when working with the Jewish culture for instance; or when working with new students who have totally rejected a “Churchianity” that was drummed into them. One can of course utilise terms like “World Teacher” “Messiah” and “Lord Maitreya” but we cannot really avoid the most powerful term, Christ; this has been well documented in a book about the Great Invocation which explores its esoteric numerology and connections to Sirius and Christ.13
The world is indeed in a parlous state, and the powerlessness that many people feel is illusory from the point of view of the correct practice of meditation and the right use of the Great Invocation. There is much that can be done to bring about effective change in the world and it takes place subjectively; all it takes is the discipline to really focus and visualise whilst saying the mantram. It is of course much more effective when used in a group, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
