Libra and ‘No Man’s Land’
There are two Libra full moon periods in 2010, in the first and last degrees of this sign, promising a good double-dose of Libran energy. The first full moon coincides with the equinox at the first degree of Libra, bringing in even greater potencies than would otherwise be the case. The symbolism of the equinox (equal night/day) almost gives its name to Libra. The second full moon is known as a ‘blue moon’, when it happens twice in one sign – i.e. only now and again.
Libra governs the decision-making process that occurs through the balancing of the judicial mind. Libra is also the sign that governs this interim cuspal period between the ages of Pisces and Aquarius:
“In this transition period through which the world is now passing and in this interlude between two activities—that of the Piscean Age which is passing and that of Aquarius which is coming in—Libra will eventually rule, and the end of this [20th] century will see the influence of Libra steadily coming into pronounced control and into a position of power in the planetary horoscope … Libra rules the present interlude and might be regarded as “the master of no-man’s land,” as one of the Masters of the Wisdom called it lately.”
‘No man’s land’ is a curious phrase, implying neither one nor the other, neither this nor that – and is why Libra governs the middle way, or the ‘narrow razor-edged path’ of discipleship. ‘No man’s land’ was also a hellish place between warring battle lines, described by British poet Wilfred Owen who eventually perished in the trenches of World War I:
“No Man’s Land is pocket marked like the body of foulest disease and its odour is the breath of cancer…No Man’s Land under snow is like the face of the moon, chaotic, crater-ridden, uninhabitable, awful, the abode of madness. Hideous landscapes, vile noises….everything unnatural, broken, blastered; the distortion of the dead, whose unburiable bodies sit outside the dug-outs all day, all night, the most execrable sights on earth.”
This awful description can be seen as an analogy for the chaos characterising the zodiacal ages and ray cycles transitions – as well as the age of the Kali Yuga (death/destruction) currently unfolding. Hence Libra has a pacifying if not beautifying effect on Mars-ruled war and the troubles of the age, no less so every year when the Sun transits through Libra. However 2009-10 saw Saturn enter Libra for the first time in thirty years, the place of its ‘exaltation’:
Saturn in Libra
“In this sign, Saturn is exalted for—at the point of balance—opportunity comes and a situation is staged which makes a choice and a determination inevitable. It is a choice which has to be made intelligently and upon the physical plane, in the waking brain consciousness. It is only now that the full purpose and the work of Saturn for humanity can reach a point of group usefulness, for it is only now that humanity has reached a point of general and widespread intelligence which can make any choice a definite conscious act, entailing responsibility.
Prior to the present time, only a few pioneering disciples and a handful of intelligent people could be regarded as freely choosing at the “point of balance” the way that they intend “to tip the scales.” Today, there are countless numbers and hence the intense activity of Saturn as we enter into the first decan of Aquarius and hence the same activity because humanity itself now stands upon the probationary path. This, Libra governs and controls, therefore the path of choices, of deliberately applied purificatory measures and the turning point before Scorpio, which governs the path of discipleship, can properly play its part.”
These are some remarkable statements here, ‘the work of Saturn for humanity can reach a point of group usefulness, for it is only now that humanity has reached a point of general and widespread intelligence.’ Several points emerge for consideration.
Firstly, ‘group usefulness’. This alludes to two factors relating to Aquarius and its ruler Uranus. Uranus is the soul ruler of Libra – the sign of personal relationships, yet its planetary influence here (for those responding rightly to it), is more about the development of impersonal group relationships. (Not unlike Uranus’s exoteric rulership over Aquarius.) As noted in the above quotation, Saturn is also the ruler of the first decanate of Aquarius, linking Aquarius and Libra together in another way.
Secondly, ‘humanity has reached a point of general and widespread intelligence’, refers to the fact that the third ray of Active Intelligence is the only ray given as passing through Libra. Naturally, Saturn as ruler is the transmitter of this ray force. Since a major third ray cycle started in 1425, birthing the Renaissance (the third ray is the ‘mother’ ray), the acceleration of consciousness upon the planet has been remarkable. There has been a rapid bridging of the gap between ‘moon chain’ and ‘earth chain’ souls, referred to in previous newsletters.
Humanity as a whole embodies the planetary throat chakra, ruled by Saturn; this chakra is the seat of expression for the mental body. Hence ‘freely choosing at the “point of balance” is the unique opportunity that Humanity now has, being far more aware and conscious than at any time in its history. Saturn is also the Lord of Karma, and Humanity must be given free will to manage its destiny and determine which way it is to ‘tip the scales’. There are several important planetary events transpiring during the blue moon month of Libra, so let us examine some.
Israel and Netanyahu
Israel and Palestine are currently engaged in yet another ‘peace process’, and who knows what opportunities may emerge. However, as of this writing, the same old issues seem to be bogging the process down. (See Haaretz news in Jerusalem) Netanyahu is a right wing Likud hard-liner who has consistently stated philosophies that are not consistent with a genuine two state or one state solution. Some observers say that the current ‘peace talks’ are simply a posturing process that he is committed to going through, so that he can say that he ‘tried his best’ with the Palestinians (or the Iranians for that matter), then go ahead and initiate his hardline policies.
Yet he is an ‘unlikely Libran’, with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Neptune in the sign of the Peacemaker, hence he may be able to play a part in harmonisation. It would be miraculous to see him make such a turn-around, old habits and ideas do not die overnight; yet the political situation may urgently demand it – that he has no other choice.
This horoscope has been rectified by a co-worker who has a proven track record in dowsing horoscopes for correct birth times. This author’s first impression was also Scorpio rising, the sign that was eventually dowsed.
Let us examine Benjamin Netanyahu’s (BN) transits and progressions unfolding in the next couple of years, because there is so much going on – and because the position of power that he holds is so critical, not only in the Middle East, but for the world.
1. Transiting Saturn conjunct Mercury and square Uranus
Saturn will be transiting all his Libran planets for the next couple of years, giving him ample opportunities to bring forth the best of his Libran nature. Currently Mercury is being activated, setting off the natal pattern/samskara of Mercury square Uranus.
BN’s Mercury in Libra can certainly exercise plenty of ‘double-speak’ in its lower expression, especially conjunct Neptune, one can be a calculating liar! There is an article called ‘Finding the Truth in Netanyahu’s Speeches’! Or other less kind remarks such as ‘big fat liar’, ‘obscene liar’ etc.; his propaganda-ridden speech to the UN in New York last year is another example. Yet this aspect can also be one who is very intuitive and can communicate a high vision in an inspiring manner. Hmm!
Mercury square Uranus challenges Netanyahu to really move from the personal to the impersonal in communications, to consider the wider group, especially as Uranus is the esoteric ruler of Libra – on the eleventh house cusp of groups and spiritual community. Mercury is actually the hierarchical ruler of his Scorpio ascendant, so at least symbolically, the resolution of the Mercury square Uranus aspect can be seen as the achievement of his very highest potential: Right communications based upon humanitarian principles. To date, his Scorpio ascendant has expressed itself mainly as utter ruthlessness and extremely dubious machinations behind the scenes.
Transiting Saturn has been squaring Uranus these past few months and moves over Mercury relatively briefly in the next few weeks (exact Oct 15), triggering the Mercury square Uranus aspect.
2. Transiting Pluto opposite Uranus
This will occur between now and the end of 2010, on and off until Sept 2010, creating a potentially ruthless approach to force issues, rather than come to a consensus. Equally though, Pluto may force him to respond to the Uranian humanitarian influences and consider the greater issues. Pluto is also co-ruler of Scorpio, Netanyahu’s soul potential, and hence the challenge to use power rightly is very much to the fore at the moment.
3. Natal Uranus strongly aspected
It is most worthy to note that Uranus as soul ruler of BN’s Libran planets is so prominently stimulated by both transiting Saturn and transiting Uranus; this can help elicit the higher group good that Libra represents. It can also strongly stimulate the sacral centre which Uranus rules, creating a default to the point of least resistance – tribal survival relating to Israel and more personally, sexual issues. It is interesting to note that the latter issues of the personal can have major ramifications on a nation if the individual does not handle them rightly.
4. Natal Mars
Mars is regarded as both the exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio and is placed natally in late Leo exactly square BN’s Scorpio rising. His natal Mars is just two degrees away from Israel’s problematically placed Mars, so in many ways his personal soul challenge embodies Israel’s challenge.
Mars in Leo is naturally aggressive and ‘aggrandising’, proud and pompous, a regular Rottweiler if ever I have experienced one! (I know several Mars in Leo people personally.) Mars is a non-sacred planet and rules the solar plexus, seat of expression for the astral body. Leo esoterically rules the ‘astral permanent atom’, hence the combination of both Mars and Leo can produce much passion, blind devotion, strong sexual drive, highly ambitious, super creativity and lower ego defensiveness. Mars in Leo aspires to, but has not achieved the ‘regality’ of the accomplished Leo, ‘The One who Rules’. Mars is also conjunct Scorpio co-ruler Pluto, in the ninth house of foreign affairs.
5. Transiting Uranus/Jupiter opposite Progressed Mars
Mars in BN’s horoscope has now progressed to 27 Virgo 58. Virgo is much more humble than Leo! Progressions of planets since birth sound the sub tones of experience and cyclic opportunity. Esoterically Mars in Virgo is related to the ‘quickening’ of the Christ principle or soul within an individual. (‘Christ’ would not be a word in Netanyahu’s lexicon!)
Nevertheless, transiting Jupiter and Uranus, on their coinciding 12 and 84 year cycles, are opposing his progressed Mars on and off until February 2011. This is a major lifetime opportunity. Jupiter, ruler of the second ray of love-wisdom, combined with Uranus, ruler of the seventh ray of organisation and order, are both co-rulers of Aquarius – the sign of the universal kibbutz. Uranus is the soul ruler of all his Libran planets, hence this period of several months will be a fascinating one to watch as Netanyahu has the opportunity to respond to the higher frequencies of Uranus and make his Libran decision.
The heat is really on for the next few months for Netanyahu to ‘make good’ – under tremendous pressure internally in Israel and externally from Arab nations and the USA. Added to this is the fact that his progressed Sun leaves Sagittarius where it has been for the past thirty years, entering Capricorn in Sept 2011. Capricorn is the sign of initiation and will certainly be throwing plenty of challenges his way.
6. Transiting Mars in Scorpio: Bringer of opportunity
Mars entered Scorpio recently for the first time in two years, staying there until almost the end of October, after the Sun enters Scorpio. Mars is the personality and esoteric ruler of Scorpio, the sign of intense spiritual struggle and triumph. Mars as god of war guarantees conflict between the warring personality and soul, yet it meets up with Venus in early October, hinting at some union and peace. The Tibetan Master Djwhal Khul, says the following about Mars in Scorpio:
“Mars is both the orthodox planet controlling the personality in Scorpio and also the esoteric planet conditioning the unfoldment of the disciple. Mars is the dominating factor in the tests and trials of the disciple … In Scorpio, the result of all the struggles carried forward during the seemingly endless pilgrimage around the zodiac or wheel of life is brought to a point of climax, again through the activity of Mars …The disciple has now to demonstrate the strength, character and quality which he has unfolded and developed within himself during his long pilgrimage.
He started in Aries with Mars ruling, and the great war between the dualities which constitute the man began. The pairs of opposites were thus brought into relation with each other. In Scorpio, with the same planet ruling his interior life, the war is on and in this case Mars rules not only the physical body but the entire form vehicle, which we call the personality in the three worlds. All aspects of the lower nature are involved in this crisis, for Mars is the esoteric ruler in Scorpio and the tests applied involve the form nature—gross and subtle, integrated and potent.
…The effect of Mars is, therefore, largely mass effect and group results, producing great struggles but leading finally to great revelation. In Aries, it is the final revelation of the nature of knowledge and the purpose of incarnation; in Scorpio, it is the revelation of the vision of liberation and service; … It must consequently never be forgotten that Mars establishes relations between the opposites and is a beneficent and not a malefic factor, as is so often supposed.
… The final struggle in Scorpio only takes place when the point of balance between soul and body has been reached in Libra and it is in Scorpio that the preponderance of the spiritual energy is imposed upon the lower personal forces. Scorpio governs “the initiates,” which is the true esoteric name of man, and through its hierarchical planetary ruler, the Sons of Mind, the Messengers of Deity are revealed, but it is through Mars and the Martian activity that the revelation comes about.
… It will be obvious to you, therefore, how the tests in Scorpio and the activity of Mars are potent to arouse the entire lower nature and bring about its final rebellion and the last stand, so to speak, of the personality against the soul. It is Mars who brings the world Arjuna into the active fight. The whole man is then engaged and the “quarrel of the sexes” is resolved in its highest aspect through the battle between the highly developed personality or form nature and the soul which seeks to be the ultimate controlling factor.”
Well! Will transiting Venus in Scorpio tame the ardent Mars – as in Botticelli’s picture above? Will Bibi have his ‘road to Damascus’ moment like that other Scorpio Saint Paul, in this region 2000 years ago? Will Saul become Paul? From Bibi to Ya-habibi? (‘loved one’ – also my favourite Lebanese restaurant in Bondi!)
Who knows, but the influence of transiting Venus in Scorpio during roughly the same period, heralds some great possibilities, especially with the conjunction of Venus and Mars on October 3.
7. Transiting Mars in Scorpio squaring BN/Israel planets
During the month of both Libra full moons, transiting Venus (ruler of Libra) and transiting Mars (Scorpio) will both be moving through Scorpio, creating some intense short term challenges, for Netanyahu and Israel.
Israel has its Moon, Pluto, Saturn and Mars in Leo, hence transiting Mars and Venus could ‘run riot’ with the square aspects that they will be creating to Israel’s natal planets. Those dates respectively for Mars will be Sept 27 to Oct 8, with Oct 2-3 critical. Israel has not had a good track record in the past when these planets have been activated, bringing up issues of national pride and aggression.
Netanyahu (Oct 22-23) The major transiting square of Mars to watch – will be to Netanyahu’s natal Mars at 26 Leo 45 on Oct 22-23. October 22 is the blue moon of Libra, hence the gateway from the full moon forces will be intense! Transiting Mars will be conjunct his rising sign whilst setting off the square to natal Mars.
If BN’s chart is correct, then the progressed midheaven will be conjoined by transiting Mars on Sept 25-26, possibly signalling some breakthrough, achievement or at worst, act of aggression.
Israel (Oct 22-25) Then a couple of days later (Oct 24-25), transiting Mars moves into exact square with Israel’s natal Mars, only a couple of degrees from BN’s. Just before this on Oct 18, transiting Mars opposes Israel’s Sun, hence Oct 18-25 will be critical for Israel in handling their natal Sun in Taurus square Mars ‘samskara’ – i.e. crystallised pattern of aggression that is not integrated into the personality of their Sun sign; the point of least resistance will be to attack her neighbours again.
USA Saturn Return(Dec 3, 2010 to Aug 28, 2011)
A reminder that as Libra is potent in the planetary horoscope at the moment, the transit of Saturn through Libra will be opportune for the entire planet – in terms of Libran themes of law, justice, fairness, relationships etc.
In USA’s exoteric horoscope for 1776, this will be the eighth Saturn return in her short history. It might be profitable for students to track what occurred on those earlier dates. The 1776 horoscope of the USA has Saturn in Libra, square to its Cancer Sun. This is not an easy aspect and challenges to integrate the maternal, nurturing, emotionally influenced qualities of Cancer with the more airy, detached, mental energies of Saturn in Libra. This can manifest itself as a certain ‘hardness’ that is a product of not being able to find the middle way between these two poles. It can also manifest as a need to prove something to the world, but beset by lack of confidence, producing over-compensatory behaviour.
This aspect also relates to the USA’s pre-occupation, corruption and manipulation of the Law – that has had the effect of severely undermined their democratic system in the past fifty years. Hence the Saturn return is an opportunity to right some of those wrongs – not just for the USA but the world in general.
There is an opportunity during this time for law breakers in all areas of human activity to be brought to justice; for the judicial system itself to go through an overhaul; compensation sought and brought for past events.
Saturn in Libra is also intimately connected to money and its manipulation and/or right use. With the economy so emphasised in the past few years, it is difficult to say how the Saturn return may manifest. Perhaps it could represent a severe drawing in of the purse strings – ‘austerity measures’ (Saturn square Sun), a balancing process in the economy and the development of a fairer redistribution of wealth. Financial criminals may be bought to justice also.
Transiting Saturn in the 9/11 Horoscope
On the day of those fateful events on 9/11, a new ‘entity’ was created for the moment that the first plane hit the first tower (8.42 am, Sept 11, 2001). The rising sign or ‘soul potential’ of the 9/11 chart is Libra, perhaps hinting at the truth and justice that might eventually be achieved – in relation to who was responsible and what was the motive.
Apart from the obvious financial compensations to the victims and families, the proper compensation must be the Law working itself out by bringing perpetrators to justice and revealing the truth. Hence Saturn brings the opportunity to do just that – as it transits back and forth over the 9/11 Libra rising sign from now until August 2011.

Progressed Sun square Moon The progressed 9/11 Sun is now in late Virgo, in the exact degree of Netanyahu’s aforementioned Mars! (Will there be a coalescence of certain events from both sides of the world?) In other words, the transits of Jupiter and Uranus through Pisces for the next few months, will oppose the 9/11 progressed Sun; this may well invoke the truth (Jupiter) and its evocation or manifestation (Uranus).
Yet also, the 9/11 progressed Sun is coming into an exact square with the 9/11 Moon in Gemini in the ninth house (law). The Moon is the ‘shadow’ or ‘dweller’ and in 9/11’s case has been identified by several commentators as the culprit of conspiracy and trickery behind the event. Likewise, the Moon’s dispositor Mercury, sits on the 9/11 Libra rising square to Jupiter. The Moon rules the 10th house, the ‘career’ or the ‘public’, hence the square will create much tension in forcing the truth out into the public domain.
The US administration maintains a deafening silence amidst the mounting evidence. Yet the Saturn return period in the USA’s exoteric horoscope, may force the government’s hand. Indeed, when and if a 9/11 conspiracy is finally exposed (with the help of transiting Pluto in Capricorn), it could almost tear the nation apart; for the mainstream to finally hear the truth would have unimaginably devastating and far-reaching consequences; it would be an emotional 9/11! It is for this reason that the current and successive governments may go on trying to suppress the evidence. Let us see what Saturn, the Lord of Time, has to say – time will tell!
