Virgo New Moon, the Sphinx and Sirius
August 20 saw a balsamic moon – or waning crescent (see photo), the final phase of the monthly lunar cycle before the new moon. Balsamic moons symbolise a time of reflection and introspection – a time to release that which no longer serves, in preparation for the new cycle.
As the new moon falls in the first degree of Virgo on August 23, there is the symbolism of the Sphinx, with the body of a lion and face of the Virgin. Furthermore, the new moon is exactly conjunct Regulus, a star of the first magnitude – frequently called “the heart of the Lion” – through which three influences of Sirius are said to be focussed.
Leo is a major sign of focusing the energies of Sirius, but Virgo is among six other zodiac signs that are gateways for Sirius in varying expressions. Leo-Virgo – the Lion and the Virgin, constitute the great astrological mystery of the zodiacal sign called The Sphinx:
“In this world period we have the division of the sign of the Sphinx into two signs (the Lion and the Virgin, soul and form) because the state of human evolution and conscious realisation is that of a recognised duality2 … “Virgo and Leo together stand for the whole man, for the God-man as well as for spirit-matter.”3
In Egytpian mythology, Isis is regarded as Sirius A, the brightest star in the sky. Her consort Osiris is regarded as the white dwarf star Sirius B. The reason for the prominence of Sirius on Earth, is that most of humanity – having achieved liberation, will choose the “4th cosmic path to Sirius” – as neophytes in a whole new evolution!
The Sphinx’s face of the Virgin is oriented toward the rising Sun and it might be argued that the Virgin is in fact Isis – the symbol for Sirius – regarded as the higher self to our solar system.
According to Bauval and Hancock, the orientation of the Sphinx matches the celestial configuration of the vernal equinox sunrise in Leo – around 10,500 B.C. It may well have made that alignment then, but esoterically it is regarded as several 25,000-year precession cycles earlier.
The star Regulus sits on the cusp of Leo-Virgo, literally at the centre of The Sphinx which is said to hide underneath the keys to the Hall of Records. (There has been much activity recently on the Giza plateau regarding new discoveries via lidar technology.)
Virgo-Pisces
In Esoteric Astrology, polar opposite signs are very important for balancing dualities – in the search for synthesis and unity. Virgo is the “triple-goddess” of Eve, Isis and Mary – opposite Pisces “the fish goddess” or mermaid. As already noted in the Egyptian tradition, Isis is synonymous with Sirius (the Nile star), so regarding water sign Pisces, “The central light of Sirius shone through the eye of the Son; the vision came.
The light of wisdom penetrated into the waters and cast the radiance of the Heavens into the depths. At this attractive call, the goddess rose unto the surface (the fish-goddess [or mermaid]) – and welcomed the light within the depths and grasped it as her own …
And then the heavens within the ring-pass-not responded to the light from Sirius which, passing through the sea of Pisces, lifted the fishes into the heavenly sphere (Uranus) and thus a lesser triple light appeared, the radiant sun of suns, the watery light of Pisces, the heavenly light of Uranus …”.4

One path of transmission from the “Graet White Brotherhood” on Sirius to Earth – is via these “staging posts”:
Sirius >>> Pisces >>> Uranus >>> Hierarchy on Earth >>> Heart centre of disciple >>> Solar plexus centre of disciple.

There is much to be thought out here, as Uranus does not traditionally relate to Pisces. However, it is related to the synthesis of heart (Pisces) and mind (Uranus). Sirius represents the blending of both.
On this new moon in Virgo 2025, Uranus is prominent in Gemini – squaring the new moon from the midheaven, dominating the chart with its themes of radical change, revolution and reform. With Uranus also in the 9th house, there is a hint here of major revelations coming Humanity’s way.
This new moon is unique, in that it is the first new moon of two new moons in Virgo – in the first and last degrees of this sign, a very rare occurrence. Usually when there are two full moons in one zodiac sign, it is called a “blue moon”, but the author has never seen two new moons before.
And astronomically speaking, this new moon will be a “seasonal black moon” — a rare new moon that occurs only once every 33 months. During this phase, the Moon will be completely hidden, making the night sky darker than usual, perfect for stargazing.
So, there will be a full moon in Virgo-Pisces on September 7, then the second new moon on September 21 in the last degree of Virgo, just before the Libra equinox. With two Virgo new moons divided by a Virgo-Pisces full moon, nations influenced by Virgo will be strongly affected: Australia, Greece, Ireland, Paris, The Jewish People (soul). Brazil, New Zealand (personality).
The first and last degrees of any zodiac sign are very powerful and, “are often referred to as “critical degrees”. Planets located at the 0° of a sign are seen as initiating a new cycle, bringing a fresh, pure, and unstudied quality to the planet’s expression, symbolizing a new beginning or a “clean slate” – for the life area governed by that planet. This placement is associated with youthful vigour, visionary ideas, enthusiasm, and a daredevil attitude, often leading to innovation and breaking of traditions. [Very Uranian!]
Individuals with planets at 0° are described as starting a new journey with the energy of the sign, bringing open-mindedness and a willingness to explore new aspects of life. This is likened to the Fool Tarot card, representing the start of a new adventure with excitement but also a potential for missing details or making mistakes due to inexperience.
Conversely, the 30th° degree, known as the anaretic degree or “degree of fate,” signifies the culmination of a cycle and is associated with karmic completion, inevitability, and finality. People with planets at 30° are often described as “old souls” with a deep, seasoned understanding of the sign’s challenges, having earned their stripes through past experiences.
This degree is linked to a sense of mastery, where the individual has all the tools needed to overcome the sign’s challenges, though it can also represent a period of intense pressure, crisis, or a last chance to resolve issues before moving on.
It is a time of urgency and anticipation for transition, where the final chapter of a long period is being wrapped up. While traditionally viewed with a negative spin, the 29° degree can also be a time of distinction and the successful completion of long-term endeavors.”5

I am sure that you must have been asked many times before. But I need your clarification, I thought Alice Bailey used a sidereal zodiac sign.
The Tibetan tbrough AAB has always used the Western zodiac when discussing festivals such as Wesak.
