Mars Enters Scorpio: Crisis in Israel (Oct.12 to Nov.24)
“In Scorpio, with the same planet ruling his interior life, the war is on and in this case Mars rules not only the physical body but the entire form vehicle, which we call the personality in the three worlds.

All aspects of the lower nature are involved in this crisis, for Mars is the esoteric ruler in Scorpio and the tests applied involve the form nature – gross and subtle, integrated and potent.”1

The Middle East teeters on a knife edge with potential broader conflicts looming, as Mars the God of War enters its own sign of Scorpio on Oct.12, staying there for six weeks. During that time, the Sun will also move from Libra to Scorpio on its annual pilgrimage.

But whilst the Sun is in Libra until Oct.23, its keynote must be clearly invoked by Humanity: “I choose the Way that leads between the two great lines of force.” To transcend duality, to blend the pairs of opposites, to invoke the forces of reconciliation.

Mars was prominent on Oct. 7 when Hamas launched the most deadly attack in Israel’s 75-year history, through 16 border breaches it had created. Transiting Venus was exactly conjunct Israel’s Mars in Leo, its position when the nation was founded upon a war with its Arab neighbours in 1948. Similarly on Oct. 7, Netanyahu had transiting Mars in Libra passing over his Sun. Libra the sign of peace, but the Mars-ruled Aries polarity became fully engaged as bombs rained down on Gaza in retaliation. Defence minister Yoav Gallant said, “We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza … there will be no electricity, no food, no water, no fuel. Everything will be closed.”

If these ferocious events happened while Mars was in Libra, can we imagine what might potentially unfold with Mars in Scorpio, the most emotionally intense sign of the zodiac?

The Dec.10, 1987 horoscope for Hamas, was conceived the day after another tragedy involving the pointless deaths of Palestinians. Mars was in Scorpio, square to the moon in Leo, the latter position shared by Israel. Tribal pride on both sides of the equation. Hamas also has a Sagittarius stellium that speaks to its zeal and one-pointed focus to liberate Gaza but also their religious fundamentalism and fanaticism. The two-yearly Mars in Scorpio return for Hamas will be exact on Oct.27, when the moon is in aggressive Aries – and transiting Jupiter makes an amplifying opposition to natal/transiting Mars. Exoterically, Mars-Scorpio is related to cruelty and revenge, persecution, power and utter ruthlessness; we witnessed that as young Israeli’s at a music festival were ambushed and mercilessly mowed down by Hamas fighters.

The next several weeks may be very tough and unpredictable for the world as a whole. Mars applies the blowtorch to the personality life. Scorpio ruler Pluto forces everyone  to walk the burning ground. This crisis is global in its implications, not just Israel or the Middle East.

There will be major tests/questions about how reactive or defensive countries, groups or individuals will be; how volatile or emotionally explosive, how vindictive or vengeful, how power is handled. In short, this “non-sacred” planet Mars, will sharply reveal what’s not integrated within the emotional body of Humanity.

As esoteric ruler, Mars functions at a more subjective level, applying the tests and trials for discipleship and initiation. Mars brings all battles – inner and outer, right up to the door of initiation. As ruler of the solar plexus centre, the seat of the astral body, Mars tests the emotional-desire nature – already severely traumatised around the world, through the heart-breaking and brutal exchanges on both sides of the current conflict.

Scorpio is a sign of testing and initiation for humanity, a sign of suffering and pain because the fourth ray of Harmony through Conflict passes through it; this ray is co-ruled by the Moon which “falls” in Scorpio.

The Moon represents the Dweller or the unredeemed lower self/shadow. When at war/resistance with the power of the higher self or conscience – there is friction, fire and pain. Desire and temporal worldly power must be relinquished in this sign of death and transformation.

Pluto as co-ruler of Scorpio, creates the “burning ground” for the disciple upon the path of initiation. The path of “fire by friction” is created by the clash of the pairs of opposites – physical, emotional and mental.

The conflict that arises between that which is sensed and new, versus that which is old and fixed, creates a smoky obscuration of maya and glamour. Scorpio is the sign of maya on the ordinary wheel of evolution, before an individual awakens. Scorpio’s keynote for this stage is, “Let maya flourish and deception rule”.

The trauma continues … wounded children are treated at Gaza City’s al-Shifa hospital on 9 October, 2023.

The path of least resistance for exoteric Mars in Scorpio on the “ordinary wheel” – is violence, ego inflation, war, murder, rape, sex in general, satisfying all the material desires of the personality; it stimulates rage, jealousy, possessiveness, aggression and selfishness.

Yet, Mars also supplies enormous drive, courage, resilience and persistence – all is dependent upon where the individual is on the Path and how they respond to the inflowing forces.

For those upon the Path, the main burning ground (to use a Plutonic phrase) is in the desire or emotional field – the desire for sex, for things, for recognition, for people, for love, for spiritual experience, for wholeness – desire is manifold.

Scorpio is a sign of death and relinquishment, hence theoretically these traits can be transformed. Mars transiting through Scorpio evokes co-ruler Pluto, revealing “what lies beneath”.

As esoteric ruler of Scorpio, and if the individual responds to the higher frequency of Mars, then a dogged and determined discipline is activated and becomes a great agent of change. The keynote that the aspirant strives for at this stage is, “Warrior am I and from the battle I emerge triumphant”. Mars at this level is the true spiritual warrior prepared to do battle with the lower self. Scorpio is a sign ruling over the initiation of the astral body, once complete control is finally demonstrated.

Ultra orthodox Jews.

Mars is also the ruler of the militant sixth ray, the personality ray of the USA – which conditions the Muslim and Christian religions. Currently the three Abrahamic religions are involved, all of them painfully obsolete: Judaism for most Israeli’s, Islam for Hamas (Sunni) and Hezbollah (Shia).

According to American philosopher Noam Chomsky, Israel’s main backer – USA: 40% of its population is fundamentalist, evangelical Christian. Many of those Christians are just as fanatical as their Muslim counterparts.

Here is the sixth ray of devotion and idealism that conditions both religions and has been a source of religious crusades throughout the ages. Well known former UN envoy and presidential candidate (!) – Nikki Haley (Mars in Aries), outraged at Hamas’ attack, encouraged Netanyahu for a genocide, not caring to distinguish between Hamas and the rest of the Palestinians: “Finish them all!”

In other words, currently there is much projection and counter-projection going on with religious factions and nations calling each other terrorists, when in fact all have been guilty of terrorism, cruelty and persecution – in one form or another.

And especially now, we are witnessing the grossest forms of hypocrisy and glaring contradictions – as the mainstream media cranks up its one-sided narrative. The Tibetan issued a dire warning about religious hatred:

“That the Jews should be rid of fear is of major importance; that they should know and recognise the Christ as the Messiah, and therefore find for themselves that the religion they follow is destructive of many of the finer values, is likewise of major importance; that orthodox Judaism, along with all the other faiths, should realise that there is no desire to make them Christian (in the ordinary sense of the term), but that they should all move towards some loving synthesis and eliminate their mutual antagonisms and rivalries is equally urgent, and this statement includes the Christian faiths as well.

That the Vatican cease its political scheming, its exploitation of the masses and its emphasis upon ignorance is as important; that the manifold divisions of the Protestant churches be bridged is imperative.

If none of these things happen, humanity is headed towards a religious war which will make the past war [WWII] appear like child’s play; antagonisms and hatreds will embroil entire populations and the politicians of all the nations will take full advantage of the situation to precipitate a war which may well prove the end of humanity. There are no hatreds so great or so deep as those fostered by religion.”2

Israel’s Horoscope
The Hamas attack had interesting timing – just as Ukrainian soldiers have been surrendering to the Russians in their thousands (according to various reports), along comes another “well-timed”, distraction to “look over here” – at Israel. And voila, Russia-Ukraine disappears from the headlines, just as Covid disappeared when that war began in Feb.2022.

Some observers speculate that the conflict in Israel was allowed to happen, to draw attention away from the fact that the proxy war in Ukraine has been a miserable failure for NATO and Western powers. Indeed, many are saying that national security lapses of Israel’s “9/11” or “Pearl Harbour” provided a pretext to expand their territory or engage in a much larger conflict with other Arab powers in the region.

But of course this horrific attack has been decades in the making, the latest of which is based upon what happened in 2021 at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. (See astro-analysis here).

The Hamas attack also occurred on the anniversary of the Oct. 6, 1973 Yom Kippur war – when a coalition of Arab states invaded Israel. Oct. 7, 2023 is the exact 50-year cycle of the Chiron in Aries return.

Yom Kippur is primarily centered on atonement, repentance, fasting and prayer. In Judaism, atonement is the process of causing a transgression against divine law to be forgiven or pardoned. Hence the timing of this attack was obviously meant to make an impression upon Israel.

Transiting Uranus (reform and revolution), is currently going back and forth over Israel’s sun in Taurus – until March 2025, activating the natal sun in Taurus square to natal Mars in Leo. This will no doubt create much instability, change and further conflicts.

Israel’s Sun placed in Taurus is a reminder of the repetition of an old pattern, where the Children of Israel, “fell down and worshipped the golden calf [Taurus]… and forgot the new teaching of the age of Aries”.3

Yet, the Mars-ruled zodiac age of Aries – once adopted by the Children of Israel, was where they remained, indicated today by the ultra orthodox sects and settlers:

“In the rejection of the Christ as the Messiah, the Jewish race has remained symbolically and practically in the sign Aries, the Scapegoat; they have to pass—again speaking symbolically—into the sign, Pisces, the Fishes, and recognise their Messiah when He comes again in the sign Aquarius.”4

This Sun square Mars pattern reflects the establishment of Israel, illegally in the middle of Arab states: “It became almost immediately embroiled in conflict with its five neighboring Arab states … starting the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.”

Israel was established by war and may be destroyed by war. Wisdom says that the true solution for Israel is that its population should be assimilated by all nations.

Focusing one third (7 M) of the global Jewish population in a territory reclaimed by the distorted premise of a Promised Land – from several thousand years ago, only deepens the rigidity of an outdated Judaism and militant Zionism – the shadow of the Jewish people.

“They [Zionists] demand the so-called restitution of Palestine, wresting it away from those who have inhabited it for many centuries; and by their continued emphasis upon material possession they lose sight of the true solution, which is that, symbolically and factually again, they must be assimilated into all the nations, and fused with all the races, thus demonstrating recognition of the One Humanity.”5

Grieving for the World

I grieve for the young Israeli’s
cut down in their prime
fleeing their festival
from music to a massacre

I grieve for babies crushed
or ripped apart in Gaza
in buildings toppled
by Israel’s axe

I grieve for an Israel
whose hardness of heart created
a hardened Hamas heart

I grieve
for the one Semitic race
that includes all Jews and Arabs
warring brothers
of the same family

I grieve for the soul
of the Jewish people
whose wandering
could never stop
by reclaiming a land lived in
thousands of years ago

I grieve
for Old Testament laws
for old testicle patriarchs
who demand an eye for an eye
and a tooth for a tooth
perpetuating an endless cycle

I grieve for world leaders
who lack courage and vision
who work from a script
and make no real decision
I grieve for those schemers
who prey upon the dreamers

I grieve for those
who pull the strings
behind the scenes
who create division and hatred
who pile up armaments
and profit
from human misery

I grieve
for the lost soldier
on Ukraine’s steppe
who perished in pain,
rotting somewhere
unburied and unknown
some mothers son
in some frozen field,
while his Russian brother
lies incinerated in his tank

I grieve
wherever in the world
our human kin has fallen,
unwitting servants
of cruelty and hatred
for territory, power and oil
meant for sharing by all

I grieve and weep
for all their grieving mothers
their fractured fathers,
their broken brothers and sisters
dehumanised, demoralised
downtrodden
their anguished wailing
reaching up to the stars

I grieve for our tiny sphere
of suffering and distress
for the Silent Watcher
within whose wings
we are blessed,
who waits out the aeons
for your liberation,
for the last weary pilgrim
to forge in the heart
the real right of return
to the fiery hearth.
