Dear Phillip, I was wondering if you know that Bolivia is going through a very tough and dangerous time. For more than twenty years we have been governed by Evo Morales, who is now being investigated for drug dealings and for child molesting. He is hiding in Chapare, protected by his followers. Now, we have a new democratic president who wants to put Bolivia back on its feet again, for we have been living with no rights, great corruption, and totally bankrupt. But Evo Morales has sent hords of indiginous people, minners, farmers, so forth, to La Paz, and now, we are all surrounded and with blocked roads throughout all of Bolivia, and especially La Paz, which is with no food to eat and no way to escape. They are continously attacked by these hords, which break and tear everything they see, scare people, attack them, and so forth. While blocking all roads, they don’t even let ambulances pass by, and people have died because of that. Oxigen tanks can’t reach hospitals. They are thousands and thousands. Our current president thinks that talking with them, explaining them what should be done to help Bolivia, and so forth is the best way to pacify them. They don’t even listen. And things are getting very scary. The people that lead these hords, whick are paid and also forced to go out and attack civilians, had before, great incomes out of bribery and from the drug traffikers, and they don’t want to loose that. We are in a crucial moment of two sides (Gemini): the ones that want a better Bolivia, to be free, to clean up corruption, live in peace, enabling people to work, study and be part of the community of nations… (USA, the EU, UN, many South American nations, are all backing up Bolivia. They even sent some help with food). And the other side of ignorant, hating people, that don’t want changes, they prefer the past and the status quo. And they are very strong, and getting help from the Socialists of the 21 Century group and from drug cartels. Meanwhile, our president keeps on trying to speak to different groups, and nothing comes out of it. If even one of their men gets killed, it would be very dangerous. I don’t know if I have been clear. Please look it up, Phillip. I would like to know about what is going on in our Bolivia chart. We are working with meditations, the GI, etc. Thank you for reading my letter. Thank you for so much you give us. Much love to you, dear friend. Nila (from Cochabamba)

    1. I can only comment on so much Nila, so I take your word for it! It is a shame what is happening in Bolivia and there are many other countries in a similar situation.

I resonated with the discussion on esoteric Gemini and the qualities of Uranus, as my rising sign is Gemini, conjunct Uranus and Venus. I recently shared with the prime minister of Australia – “Imagine if our shared humanity was taught in schools. Imagine if people all over the world regularly came together to laugh, to sing, to dance. Imagine if governments treated each other as brothers, encouraging each other to give their people a truly fulfilling and happy life. Imagine if war was a distant memory, where we are amazed and saddened that we once brought such misery to each other.”

Hello Phillip, first of all, happy Gemini, the duality that allows us to achieve Unity.

Today, upon reading your statement “Mars – the alter ego of Pluto,” a question arises. It’s not the first time I’ve asked myself this question, because I believe I read this same statement in one of DK’s books, but I’ve never answered it.

However difficult it may be for a scientist to accept, DK tells us that: “the names of the planets are not the result of an arbitrary selection, but rather the planets name themselves” (Treatise on White Magic).

If we look at the etymological root of Pluto, we see that it means: “the rich one,” “the giver of wealth.”

It’s paradoxical that the name of “the dreaded” Pluto means “the giver of wealth.” Of course, the riches of the Soul, not the personality; hence its connection to the Scorpion’s transformation into a Phoenix, the regenerative power of death, the freedom that comes from the costly destruction of personal attachments.

What makes me think is when you state that Pluto is Mars’s alter ego.

We know that neither is sacred, but based on that statement, am I to think that Mars’s role is superior to Pluto’s? However, given Pluto’s function of destroying the thoughts or emotions that motivate martial action (often aggressive and destructive), we might think it’s the other way around.

In other words, if an alter ego is the higher image of what one aspires to be, I don’t quite understand what Pluto aspires to in Mars.

    1. I tend to agree with you David, perhaps the interpretation of what alter ego actually means, as it can be quite ambiguous: “Another side of oneself; a second self”. Hence Mars-Pluto might be interchangeable in this respect. Yet Pluto is referred to elsewhere as an “esoteric planet”. To give context, here is the whole passage about Pluto and Mars:

“You will note that Pluto and not Mars is here mentioned by me as a non-sacred Planet, ruling Scorpio. The reason for this is that there is a relation between Mars and Pluto analogous to that between Venus and the Earth. Esoterically speaking, Mars is the alter ego of Pluto; the activity of Pluto at this time and in this lesser world cycle is very important on account of its esoteric approach to the Earth, impelled thereto by the vivification of its life by a display of Martian energy.

The Earth, Mars and Pluto [Page 508] form an interesting triangle with Venus behind the scene acting as the impelling soul acts towards a rapidly integrating personality. This triangle should not be forgotten when casting the horoscope, because it indicates a relation and a possibility which can be (though it often is not) a major determining factor, prior to passing on to the Probationary Path.” (EA)

Perhaps what Pluto longs for in Mars is the quality that Mars is capable of demonstrating as the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius.

Pluto in Pisces, as a hierarchical ruler, also has a fundamental role, but it remains a role of “death”—a destroyer guided by the soul, but destructive nonetheless. Mars, through Sagittarius, is no longer the warrior in Scorpio forced to fight and destroy to prove the truth of the soul, but rather its proactive and constructive expression.
