In light of our global crisis, commentary continues on the Jewish people and Israel, the many recent missives of which can be found at this link.
The Festival of Purim is always on the full moon period of Pisces-Virgo, celebrating the deliverance of the Jewish people from Haman in the days of Queen Esther of Persia. (Around the 5th century BC.) Purim commemorates the dramatic turnaround that occurred on the day that Haman had set aside for killing the Jews.
Instead, the Jewish people soundly trounced their enemies, slaughtering 75,000 Persians in Shushan and the provinces, including women and children (Esther 9:6, 15–16). Jewish scholars concur that the Jews of that time attacked their enemies without immediate provocation, engaging in a wholesale slaughter of a portion of the population that was totally cowed and defenseless.
Hence, this full moon period in 2026 will be tense in relation to ancient Persia – or modern Iran – a nation that Zionist Israel (not most of world Jewry), has stated they wish to annihalate. Observers state that this is Israel’s last window of opportunity to attack Iran with US support. And the fervour of Purim during Ramadan may inflate Israeli zealotry, an example of which can be found in this 5’ excerpt with Mike Huckabee and a Rabbi. (It truly reveals Israel’s national psychosis.)
New moon solar eclipse Feb.17.
There are various transits which may ignite the imminent aggression:
1. Transiting Mars in Aquarius square to Uranus in Taurus. Exact on Feb.27, activating the Feb.17 solar eclipse in Aquarius that was also square to Uranus. Then Mars moves forward to make an exact conjunction to the Feb.17 Aquarius eclipse point from Feb.27 to exact on March 1. (See transit charts that mark all these positions.)
Also noteworthy, is that Ramadan started on Feb.17 – at the new moon solar eclipse continuing for one month, until the new moon on March 19 – one day before the Aries spring equinox.
Hence, the window of Feb.27 through to March 3 full moon (Purim) is the major danger period for two nations, each with their own religious affiliations, though it could not be called a religious war – more the proverbial imperialist conquest. This period is also exacerbated by the following point:
2. USA’s Moon in Aquarius opposite Trump’s Mars/Leo rising. Feb.27 sees not only Mars square Uranus but make an exact conjunction to USA’s Moon in Aquarius – which sits exactly opposite Trump’s Mars in Leo. From Feb.27 to March 1, transiting Mars moves in to oppose Trump’s Leo ascendant.
Inner to Outer: USA, Trump, Israel, Netanyahu.
This Mars in Leo/Leo rising energy is behind Trump’s egotistical demeanour and wounded pride, hence this transit could easily activate a decision to attack Iran. This might also be encouraged by transiting Jupiter in Cancer retrograding back over USA’s Sun, giving a sense of inflated self-importance, bombast and patriotism – an over-confidence that could lead to disastrous decisions.
Trump has said he prefers peaceful negotiations on the one hand, then makes entirely spurious claims about the “threat of Iran” on the other – as do other members of his cabinet.
The game of keeping everyone guessing is of course a form of gaslighting. Trump is considerably controlled by Netanyahu and Israel, probably through what has been removed from the Epstein files, but will be released if he steps out of line.
3. Israel and Trumpanyahu Trump is driven by Zionism and is surrounded by his own appointments of Zionist ideologues in cabinet – who are hell-bent on attacking Iran.
Most of the US Congress is “owned” by AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). Both sides of the aisle erupt into applause when Trump makes negative comments about Iran. Hence ordinary Americans do not have any democratic power to dissuade a highly compromised Congress or leadership that acts with impunity.
This, despite the fact that militarily it would be a foolish move, because Iran is extremely well-armed to respond, let alone the consideration of Russia and China firmly backing them.
Israel’s Mars is in the 29th degree of Leo, conjunct Trump’s ascendant, opposite USA’s Moon and the Feb.17 eclipse in Aquarius. Netanyahu’s Mars is in the 27th degree of Leo, so it too will be activated on Feb.27.
In fact, Netanyahu and Trump’s Mars positions occupy the same 27th degree of Leo, they are like twins in terms of US Mars-military support for Israel. The Sabian symbol for this degree is:
“The luminescence of dawn in the eastern sky: The exalting challenge of new opportunities at the threshold of a new cycle.”2
This can be a very positive degree but in this case represents the idealism of a distorted ideology for a “greater Israel” and a US president under its spell. Hence, the fact that this Mars degree is being activated, is of great concern. And it has been …..
USA-Israel-Iran Conflict Has Begun
Now that the conflict has begun on Feb.28, it is timely to consider the transit of the Moon in Leo over several Leo planets in Israel’s horoscope – leading up to the full moon on March 3.
The moon has just just entered Leo and opposed Pluto in Aquarius on Feb.28, marking a high risk escalation of the attack that began at around 6.30 am Tel Aviv time. About 10 hours later (2 am March 1), Israel’s monthly lunar return takes place.
As regularly noted in my missives, the Moon in Leo is about Israeli national pride, the “Lion of Judah” and other antiquated beliefs such as the “chosen ones” and “greater Israel”. And this joint operation with the USA is called “Operation Lion’s Roar”.
The next few days will see if their roar prevails, or is reduced to a whining whimper by Leo rising Iran. Around 90 people were killed after an Israeli strike hit a girls’ elementary school, no doubt fuelling anger in Iran for retribution. One wonders at the mentality of a leadership that not only heartlessly bombed a school, but put its own population in mortal danger by attacking Iran. This is known as the Hannibal Directive, sacrificing your own as part of warfare.
Israel
Hence this first day of the conflict on Feb.28 – moving into the lunar return early March 1, is spiced with heavy nationalism, leading up to the festival of Purim – March 2-3.

Israel’s natal moon in Leo is conjunct deadly Pluto and transiting moon will pass over Pluto in Leo soon after, around 8 am, March 1 (Sunday). Several hours later at 2 pm, the moon will pass over lord of karma – Saturn in Leo. Things might look very grim for Israel at this stage, depending upon Iran’s response to this unprovoked attack.
And during this period, transiting Mars in late Aquarius is still squaring the Feb.17 solar ecliplse point, opposing Trump’s Leo ascendant which falls on Israel’s Mars in Leo.
Finally, on March 2, transiting moon in Leo almost finishes its passage through this sign, conjoining Israel’s Mars at around 11 am. By this time or soon after, the situation with Israel, Iran and the US fleet will be much clearer.
For all these parties, the possibility of huge destruction cannot be overstated, given the transits mentioned. However, about 4 pm on March 2 (Monday) transiting Mars moves into Pisces, considerably weakening Mars aggression, literally watering it down – bringing in a note of greater compassion.
Mars is non-confrontational in Pisces, very much like Libra the Peacemaker, walking away from confrontation at times. Hence, there is the possibility of going back to negotiations during that period. Mars in Pisces may also reinforce Israel resorting to its victimhood mentality as a result of responses to an aggression which it started.
Mercury Retrograde in Pisces: 2020 and 2026
There are some interesting connections between Mercury’s current retrograde in Pisces to its retrograde period in February 2020, when the Covid deception was beginning.
As ruler of Pisces, Neptune in its lower expression represents the masses, glamour, deception and lack of discrimination. We may recall that the “virus” was announced at the end of 2019 and early 2020, as global fear-mongering and propaganda started to gain traction throughout Jan.-Feb. 2020.
The actual retrograde period was from Feb.17 to March 10, 2020 (excluding the pre and post shadow period Feb.2 to March 30). March 10 was when WHO director Tedros Ghebreyesus declared a pandemic, and humanity endured one of the greatest attacks/deceptions of the 21st century.
When Mercury turned retrograde on 17-2-20, it was at the same degree as TG’s Sun in Pisces. He also has natal Mercury in Pisces – an ideal messenger of deception! (Scamdemic planning has now been revealed in the Epstein files.)
So where is the deception in 2026? It is no secret that Israel and the USA have wanted the downfall of Iran since at least the 1970’s, that fact is well documented.
The deception in this case has to do with the release of damning evidence about Trump (and many others) in the Epstein files. Israel’s blackmail of Trump has forced him to go along with the attack. Putting at risk the whole planet in order to save his own skin – or is this only part of it? Both sides of US politics has supported the anti-Iran policy.
In 2026, Mercury went retrograde at 22° Pisces 34’ on Feb. 26 (two days before the attack on Iran). It then makes a direct station on March 20 – which is also the new moon, Aries equinox and end of Ramadan!
The final post-shadow period ends on April 9, so within this five-week period, the major part of this conflct may have run its course and further Epstein files revelations may have been brought to light.

The Spectre of Religious Fanaticism
(End of the Age of Pisces and the Sixth Ray Cycle)
The sixth ray of Devotion and Idealism started to pass out of its long cycle in 1625, but due to its potent expression through the sign of Pisces – its influence endures. Particularly its shadow expression of fanaticism and emotional attachment to various ideologies. All religions are influenced by the devotional sixth ray (ruled by Mars and Neptune), particularly Christianity and Islam – spawned during the 2,160-year precession cycle of Pisces.
Now, in this cuspal period between Pisces and Aquarius, the world is witnessing the destruction of old forms that suited the past age but no longer serve the new cycle. Here is the work of Pisces esoteric ruler Pluto the Destroyer, putting paid to the past. Yet the past grimly clings on in the sphere of fanatical religion.
The USA’s personality is conditioned by the sixth ray and about 66% of its population identifies as Christian. (1% Islam) Evangelicals 13% and Christian Zionists about 23% to 30% of the evangelical population – or around 30 million, four times the 7.5 million population of actual Jews.
Christian Zionism espouses the return of the Jewish people to the Holy Land, the re-establishment of Jewish sovereignty in the Levant—the eschatological “Gathering of Israel”— as a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. For hard-core Zionists, the Christian Zionists (such as Mike Huckabee) are a useful tool to consolidate their power; they have neither interest or respect for them – or Judaism per se.
Putting all this together with the stranglehold of decades-long Zionist control over every US administration, there is a recipe for disaster that is unfolding right now in the Middle East. It could spell the end of Israel and considerable loss of credibility and power for the USA.
This Zionist power base is mainly in the USA, Palestine and a third (unknown) point in central Europe – known as a “triangle of evil”. USA-Israel has picked a long-awaited fight with Iran – that is 90-95% Shia Muslims and 5-10% Sunni Muslims.
Lately there have been reports about US commanders telling troops that the Iran war is ‘God’s divine plan,’ and that Trump has been anointed by Jesus to ‘ignite Armageddon’. Pictures of Trump and cabinet members like Pete Hesgeth and Marco Rubio praying together, are all over the media. The Whitehouse established a Faith Office in 2025, headed by nutjob Paula White-Cain. (Note her Biblical name.)
Hence, the conflict that is emerging now was not necessarily a religious war, but is being MANUFACTURED as one, through a first strike on Iran’s religious leader. Fanatical Christians and Zionists igniting an equally shared fanaticism of Islam Iran.
Many regard Iran standing on the side of righteousness – in terms of not only the provocative assassination of spiritual leader Al Khamenei, but the way the whole war was planned and executed by the “United States of Israel” – during promising peace dialogues.
Add to that the recent cold-blooded murder of nearly 200 school girls, another deliberate ploy to ignite retaliatory rage. And hence the fuse has been lit for the potential of a war that “could well prove the end of humanity”:
“Humanity is headed towards a religious war which will make the past war [WWII] appear like child’s play; antagonisms and hatreds will embroil entire populations and the politicians of all the nations will take full advantage of the situation to precipitate a war which may well prove the end of humanity.”3
Mars the god of war has just entered Pisces, representing a powerful combination of sixth ray and Pisces. In fact, Iran’s horoscope has Venus, Mercury and Mars in Pisces, and their two-yearly Mars return will be exact on April 3. Two days earlier on April 1 is Iran’s solar return – in Mars-ruled Aries. All this occurs in four weeks time, USA’s estimated length of military operations.
The 12th sign Pisces is a sign of bondage – the two fishes tethered together in the ocean of matter. Hence the astrological 12th house meaning of prisons or “self-imprisonment”, where freedom is restricted. Yet Pisces also represents liberation:
“In Pisces there is the death of all attachments and the liberation of the soul for service upon an universal scale. Christ, in Pisces, exemplified the substitution of love for attachment.”4
Currently USA’s progressed Sun has been occupying Pisces for around 21 years: It is at once immersed in the deepest kind of bondage but also with the promise of liberation lingers. Particularly with regard to USA’s Pluto return in the past couple of years, the results of which are blatantly obvious now, bearing in mind Pluto’s esoteric rulership of Pisces.
The conflict of USA-Israel with Iran has been termed the “Epstein War” suggesting it was launched as a diversion to shift public attention away from the politically damaging Epstein files. Indeed, this war has been brought on by the “Epstein class” of global elites, oligarchs and billionaires operating with impunity from legal and moral accountability.
Iran has always regarded this group as the “Great Satan”, a term coined in 1979, framing USA as a “corrupting imperialist force that undermines Islamic values and promotes moral decay through democracy, human rights, and cultural modernity—concepts Iran views as deceptive traps.”5
Given USA’s downward spiral into a deeper materialism, its flouting of international law, its bullying of other nations – the Satan epithet may not be far from the truth. Of course Iran is not without its shadow playing out either, but in the eyes of many, appears to hold the moral high ground.
All of this is part of Humanity facing the planetary dweller on the threshold, to which everyone has contributed without exception. The great irony about the three Abrahamic religions claiming the return of their respective avatars, is that esoterically speaking They are actually on Their way, as per what has been written in the Externalisation of the Hierarchy.
Will those religions recognise their chosen Messiah, Imam Mahdi or Christ? For the Master Jesus, who is said to be living in southern Syria, who was born Jewish – and had Mohammed as his foremost disciple, the irony could not be more profound!
The Forge of Forgiveness
“This faculty of forgiveness is not a form of magnanimous forgetting or overlooking, neither is it a gesture of superiority whereby the slate is wiped clean. It is the very breath of life itself—the giving of all to all and for all.”6
The word “forge” is part of the word forgiveness and implies that which must be forged anew upon first-ray-ruler Vulcan’s anvil, just as first ray co-ruler Pluto destroys the past. Vulcan can forge the chains which bind, creating a forgery – or “create the key that unlocks the mystery of life”:
“Vulcan controls the anvil-like processes of time and strikes the blow which shapes the metal into that which is desired.”7

All of the above is appropriate for the Jewish People’s first ray soul. The theme of the Pisces polarity of the Virgo soul of the Jewish people, has been discussed regularly over the last few years such as, The Shadow of Pisces and Israel’s Victimhood.
Victimhood and martydom are lower expressions of Pisces, yet legitimate in terms of the many experiences of a persecuted people. Yet that persecution is not without causes (action and reaction = karma), combined with racial karma from past histories, revisited upon them:
“In the rejection of the Christ as the Messiah, the Jewish race has remained symbolically and practically in the sign Aries, the Scapegoat; they have to pass—again speaking symbolically—into the sign, Pisces, the Fishes, and recognise their Messiah when He comes again in the sign Aquarius. Otherwise, they will repeat their ancient sin of non-response to the evolutionary process.”8
The higher expression of Pisces is empathy, unconditional love, empathy, compassionate understanding and above all, forgiveness:
“Forgiveness is not a synonym for pardon … [it] is sacrifice, the giving up of one’s self, even of one’s very life, for the sake of others and for the good of the whole group.

This spirit of sacrifice is ever found when the Shamballa force is rightly contacted, even in the smallest degree, and the underlying impulse behind the loving will of God is sensed and understood, accompanied as this always is with the desire to participate in that will and its spirit of divine sacrifice.
Manifestation is itself the Great Forgiveness. The stupendous Lives—outside manifested existence—entered into manifestation in order to give Themselves for the lesser lives and forms of existence in order that these lesser lives might be enabled to proceed onward towards a goal which is known to Deity alone, and thus eventually reach high places of spiritual expression.
Achievement is ever followed by sacrifice and the giving of the greater for the lesser. This is an aspect of the Law of Evolution.”9

Note the mention of Shamballa, always associated with first ray force, the soul of the Jewish people, cruelly appopriated by Zionist forces – in the same way it was appropriated by Germany’s first ray personality in WWII.
Yet this first ray soul distortion was the impulse behind other Biblical massacres such as Amalek, a term revived in the past few years by Israeli leadership. The solution for the now very psychologically damaged nation of Israel, is the cultivation of these higher Piscean attributes.
Pisces is one of the four zodiac signs of death, ruled esoterically by Pluto, lord of the underworld. Which means dying to the past that Israel-Jews have been schlepping around for thousands of years. Letting go of ancient enmities, relinquishing its siege mentality, revoking the lie of being the chosen ones. And seeing through the megalomaniacal ambition of a “greater Israel” – bent upon endlessly acquiring more territory.

“The Significance of the Law of Sacrifice: It means the impulse of giving. The whole secret of the doctrines of “the forgiveness of sins” and of the “at-onement” lies hid in this simple phrase. It is the basis of the Christian doctrine of love and sacrifice. Hence the emphasis laid, in the Piscean Age and through the influence of Christianity, upon just these two things, – forgiveness and atonement.
That man, as usual, distorted and misinterpreted the teaching and the truth, and that it fell, as does all else at present, under the glamour and illusion of the astral plane, plus the Piscean influence, is true.
Man’s thought dominated and distorted the ideal and produced such a damnable doctrine as the elect of God, the chosen of the Lord, or the sole people to benefit by the sacrifice and death of the great Son of God, and who pass, due to the merits of that vicarious death, into a state of bliss in heaven, simply because of an emotional choice, which ignores millions of those who have made no such choice, nor had the opportunity to do so.”10
Sorrow, Pain and Suffering
While the moon passed through Cancer for a couple of days before the full moon in Virgo-Pisces, a meditation impression brought up the theme of human suffering and the travails of Mother Earth – a very Cancerian symbol.

Neptune is the esoteric ruler of Cancer and exoteric ruler of Pisces, having some water triangle features in common – which includes Scorpio. Particularly that of empathy and empaths who tend to absorb a lot pf others’ pain. These following excerpts from Alice A. Bailey are worth reflecting upon:
“The same conditions which blend the Law of Sacrifice with pain and sorrow and difficulty are found also on the planet Mars and on the planet Saturn. They are not found on the other planets.
… Only three planetary schemes [Earth, Mars and Saturn] are aware of pain and sorrow as we understand those terms; none of them know it so well or feel it so much as does our planetary Logos.” 11

“A tuning-in, through oversensitivity, on the suffering and massed pain of the world. Disciples can be temporarily overcome by this.”12
“Pain and sorrow are the result of rebellion, and of divine discontent. The instinct to betterment, based on discontent, has necessarily involved the planetary temperament or attitude which recognises the dualities.”13
“Pain, when it is lived out mentally for others, is the worst kind of pain … the capacity so to do and so to identify yourself with pain that is not specifically your own is something that all disciples have to master, because it is one of the first steps towards shouldering world pain and the agony of the human family, thus becoming a participant in the “fellowship of Christ’s sufferings” and a lifter of world burdens.

We work and live on a planet of pain. Until a man is an initiate of high degree he cannot even begin to sense the reasons why this is so; he must perforce then take refuge in the trite platitudes that suffering humanity has evolved to account for things as they are.
None of these in any way approximate the true reasons or give any real insight into the problem. Men must wait for understanding until they can no longer be hurt or limited by the pain of others. This follows when we have learnt to handle our own pain.
Then and only then can they begin to lift the burden of humanity as a whole and do their responsible share in lightening it.”14
“The real “dark night” is that of the soul as it participates in the pain of humanity as a whole, in the agony of humanity’s separation from God (a separation based upon illusion but not on actuality) and upon the desperation of humanity’s reaching forth towards what appears to be an unresponsive God.
Personality pain, agony and desperation are very different things and are not concerned with the totality of pain and suffering to which mankind is subjected.”15

Close of the Piscean Age: Fall of the Global Cabal
The recent Saturn-Neptune conjunction in the first degree of Aries, took place on the Aquarius new moon solar eclipse (Feb.17).
It was another symbolic time marker signalling the end of the Age of Pisces and the beginning of a new cycle in Aquarius. Although astronomically and esoterically the Sun does not precess into Aquarius until 2,117 AD, the world is in the middle of the 500 year cuspal period between these 2,160-year cycles:
“Astronomically, we are not yet functioning fully within the influence of Aquarius; we are only just emerging from the Piscean influence, and the full impact of the energies which Aquarius will set loose has not yet been felt.
Nevertheless, each year carries us closer to the centre of power, the major effect of which will be to induce recognition of man’s essential unity, of the processes of sharing and of cooperation, … universality and initiation.”16

The Aquarian Age has already started for those responding to this sign’s influence, while the majority of the world still languishes in the Age of Pisces – a sign known for its themes of bondage and imprisonment. The new moon horoscope (see above too) saw the Sabian Symbol for the 29th degree of Aquarius as appropriately: “A butterfly emerging from a chrysalis.” There were three important groupings in the new moon chart – in three consecutive signs:
A stellium in Aquarius – Pluto, Mars, Vulcan, Sun and Moon – the latter two square to Aquarius ruler Uranus. In Pisces – Venus, north node and Mercury. And a Saturn-Neptune conjunct in the first degree of Aries. (For the latter interpretation, see this article by the author.)
Hence the three groupings represent the Pisces past, the Aquarian future and the present – a new cycle of Saturn-Neptune in the first degree of the first sign of the zodiac, Aries.
And so, the Aquarius new moon was one of the last nails in the coffin of an age rife with corruption and crystallisation (as every age is prone) – but building upon the blueprint of the emerging Aquarian paradigm.
In this toxic Piscean vein and in light of the recently released Epstein files, it is timely to review a passage below, used regularly in these missives, written by The Tibetan through Alice Bailey about 80 years ago.17
Epstein is of course the tip of the iceberg of a widespread culture, centuries in the making. Collectively this group embodies part of the duality of anti-Christ and Christ – materialism and spirituality. Given that the One who holds the Office of the Christ (a.k.a. Lord Maitreya in the East), is prophesied to return soon as part of the Externalisation of the Hierarchy, it is appropriate that the anti-Christ (against) or ante-Christ (before) reveals itself first.
The world is at the beginning of that process now, at the end of the Age of Pisces – ruled esoterically by Pluto, who brings to the surface what must be revealed – that which has been hidden for centuries and operates surreptitiously.
Bear in mind that the following passage was written almost a century ago and in the interim, the methods described have been refined and more deeply embedded in behind-the-scenes machinations:
“The cause of all world unrest, of the world wars which have wrecked humanity and the widespread misery upon our planet can largely be attributed to a selfish group with materialistic purposes who have for centuries exploited the masses and used the labour of mankind for their selfish ends.
From the feudal barons of Europe and Great Britain in the Middle Ages through the powerful business groups of the Victorian era to the handful of capitalists—national and international—who today control the world’s resources, the capitalistic system has emerged and has wrecked the world.
This group of capitalists has cornered and exploited the world’s resources and the staples required for civilized living; they have been able to do this because they have owned and controlled the world’s wealth through their interlocking directorates and have retained it in their own hands.
They have made possible the vast differences existing between the very rich and the very poor; they love money and the power which money gives; they have stood behind governments and politicians; they have controlled the electorate; they have made possible the narrow nationalistic aims of selfish politics; they have financed the world businesses and controlled oil, coal, power, light and transportation; they control publicly or sub rosa the world’s banking accounts.
The responsibility for the widespread misery to be found today in every country in the world lies predominantly at the door of certain major interrelated groups of business-men, bankers, executives of international cartels, monopolies, trusts and organizations and directors of huge corporations who work for corporate or personal gain.
They are not interested in benefiting the public except in so far that the public demand for better living conditions will enable them—under the Law of Supply and Demand—to provide the goods, the transportation, light and power which will in the long run bring in heavier financial returns. Exploitation of man-power, the manipulation of the major planetary resources and the promotion of war for private or business profit are characteristic of their methods.
In every nation, such men and organizations—responsible for the capitalistic system—are to be found. The ramifications of their businesses and their financial grasp upon humanity were, prior to the war [WWII], active in every land and though they went underground during the war, they still exist.
They form an international group, closely interrelated, working in complete unity of idea and intention and knowing and understanding each other. These men belonged to both the Allied Nations and the Axis Powers; they have worked together before and through the entire period of the war through interlocking directorates, under false names and through deceptive organizations, aided by neutrals of their own way of thinking.
Today, in spite of the disaster which they have brought upon the world, they are again organized and renewing their methods; their goals remain unchanged; their international relationships remain unbroken; they constitute the greatest menace mankind faces today; they control politics; they buy prominent men in every nation; they insure silence through threat, cash and fear; they amass wealth and buy a spurious popularity through philanthropic enterprise …
… their families live soft and easy lives and seldom know the meaning of God-ordained work; they surround themselves with beauty, luxury and possessions and shut their eyes to the poverty, stark unhappiness, lack of warmth and decent clothing, the starvation and the ugliness of the lives of the millions by whom they are surrounded …
… they contribute to charities and church agencies as a salve to their consciences or to avoid income taxes; they provide work for countless thousands but see to it that these thousands receive so small a wage that real comfort, leisure, culture and travel are impossible.
The above is a terrible indictment. It can, however, be substantiated a thousand times over; it is breeding revolution and a growing spirit of unrest. The masses of the people in every land are aroused and awakening and a new day is dawning. [Ever more so today!] A war is starting between the selfish monied interests and the mass of humanity who demand fair play and a right share of the world’s wealth.
There are those, however, within the capitalistic system who are aware of the danger with which the monied interests are faced and whose natural tendency is to think along broader and more humanitarian lines. These men fall into two main groups:
First, those who are real humanitarians, who seek the good of their fellowmen and who have no desire to exploit the masses or to profit by the misery of others. They have risen to place and power through their sheer ability or through inherited business position and they cannot avoid the responsibility of the disposal of the millions in their hands.
They are frequently rendered helpless by their fellow executives and their hands are largely tied by the existing rules of the game, by their sense of responsibility to their stockholders and by the realization that, no matter what they do—fight or resign—the situation remains unchanged.
It is too big for the individual. They remain, therefore, relatively powerless. They are fair and just, decent and kind, simple in their way of life and with a true sense of values, but there is little of a potent nature that they can do.
Second, those who are clever enough to read the signs of the times; they realize that the capitalistic system cannot continue indefinitely in the face of humanity’s rising demands and the steady emerging of the spiritual values. They are beginning therefore to change their methods and to universalize their businesses and to institute cooperative procedures with their employees.
Their inherent selfishness prompts the change and the instinct of self-preservation determines their attitudes. In between these two groups are those who belong to neither the one nor the other; they are a fruitful field for the propaganda of the selfish capitalist or the unselfish humanitarian.”18
