The Scorpio Festival of Loy Krathong and the Buddha
This annual “festival of lights” in Thailand is always held at the Scorpio-Taurus full moon period. This celebration derives from the ancient Hindu festival of Diwali, but with a south-east Asian flavour. (See author’s article, Hindu New Moon Festival of Diwali.)
Loy Krathong translated is, “to float ritual vessel or lamp,” from the tradition of making krathong or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river, giving thanks to the Goddess of Water and River – Khongkha. (A very Neptunian theme.)

Hence, Loy Krathong celebrates the beauty of light and water, symbolising the release of “negativity and misfortunes”, expressing gratitude to the Goddess of Water.
The element of water characterises the emotions or astral currents – the feminine domain. Scorpio is a water sign related to the transformation and control of the emotions via its co-ruler Pluto.
The solar plexus centre as “gateway” to the astral body, is ruled by Mars and Neptune. Mars the exo/eso ruler of Scorpio and aforementioned Neptune, a more refined frequency.
Participants in Loy Krathong float decorated baskets – “krathongs”, on rivers and lakes – making wishes and creating a stunning spectacle under the full moon. Water is the great cleansing element that assists in release and the floating away of that which no longer serves.
During the festival, people gather around rivers, lakes, and canals to release their krathongs, which are adorned with candles and incense. This act is accompanied by silent wishes for good fortune. The festival also features cultural performances, beauty pageants, and fireworks, making it a vibrant community event.
Sky lanterns, known as “khom loi” in Thai, play a similar role during Loy Krathong – symbolising similar to the water khratongs, the release of troubles and misfortunes. The sky lanterns bring a complementary celestial element to the celebration – both practices reflect a deep respect for nature and the spiritual beliefs surrounding water and light.
As the lanterns make their spectacular ascent into the night sky, participants believe they are releasing negative emotions and inviting good fortune for the future. This breathtaking spectacle also fosters a sense of community, strengthening the bonds between families and friends.
The Buddha and Water Goddess Phra Mae Thorani
According to Buddhist tradition, Phra Mae Thorani is personified as a young woman wringing the cool waters of detachment out of her hair to drown Mara, the demon sent to tempt Gautama Buddha as he meditated under the Bodhi Tree.

“While Buddha was sitting in meditation, Mara – the “Evil One”, was jealous and wanted to stop him from reaching enlightenment. Accompanied by his warriors, wild animals and his daughters, the personifications of desire, Mara tried to drive the Bodhisattva from his throne.

All the gods were terrified and ran away, leaving the Bodhisattva alone to face Mara’s challenge, stretching down his right hand to touch the earth, summoning Phra Mae Thorani to be his witness.

This earth deity appeared in the form of a beautiful woman and affirmed the Buddha’s right to occupy the vajrisana. She twisted her long hair, and torrents of water collected there from the innumerable libations of the Buddha, creating a flood that washed away Mara and his army, leaving the Bodhisattva free to reach enlightenment.” ((Paraphrased from A Study of the History and Cult of the Buddhist Earth Deity in Mainland Southeast Asia.))
There are many illuminating symbols in this story. The Buddha was born in Scorpio polar-opposite Taurus, the “bull of desire” and gained enlightenment in Taurus – the “mother of illumination”, also passing from earth life in this sign. (Note the masculine and feminine elements expressed in Taurus.)
Taurus is an earth sign complementary to Scorpio’s water element. Phra Mae Thorani is said to be an earth deity but also a water goddess, bridging both signs. Hair is the antennae that receive intuition and inspiration, one of the higher qualities of Scorpio that express through a purified astral body.
The flood created is reminiscent of Hercules’ labour for Aquarius where he cleanses the Augean stables by diverting a river to flush away the muck – a very good Scorpio symbol of releasing the toxins.

When thinking the Taurus-Scorpio axis, the entire fixed cross can also be considered, bringing in Aquarius and Leo. Leo is the solar light within the Loy Krathong lanterns, floating upward through the night sky, “chasing away the darkness”. Aquarius of course is the “water-bearer”.
The Aquarian element of air combined with the Leo element of fire, completes the fixed cross of watery Scorpio and earthy Taurus.
The keynote for Scorpio on the “ordinary wheel” is “let maya flourish and deception rule”. Maya has a connection to Mara – who actively employs Maya. Maya was the name of Buddha’s mother, a very symbolic connection to the release of attachment – and Siddhartha renouncing his royal family to find enlightenment.
Maya is also a name for the moon which is exalted in Taurus (“mother of illumination”) and falls in Scorpio:
“The Moon is here regarded as functioning in its true nature and, therefore, as expressing symbolically that which is dead. The Moon here stands for the personality and, in the final victory in Scorpio, the personality is entirely vanquished and defeated.
Maya: Goddess of Illusion.
Desire is killed, for it is through expressed desire of some kind that personality demonstrates life, quality, appearance. Ponder upon this, for in Scorpio the Moon falls and its influence fades out.”2
Mara is a demon representing temptation, death and obstacles to enlightenment, personifying temptation and the darker aspects of existence: A very Scorpionic contrast to the Buddha’s Taurean nature.
Maya means “illusion” or “magic”, referring to the deceptive nature of the world and the illusion of permanence that distracts from understanding one’s true nature.
Maya can also be seen as a cosmic principle that creates the illusion of separateness and individuality.
Depending upon how Maya is pronounced, it has the same pronunciation as “mire” that which inhabits the swamp of the lower astral plane, in which most of Humanity is still “mired” – including most aspirants and disciples on the Path – to one degree or another!
Scorpio’s Keynotes and the Path of Discipleship
Scorpio’s two keynotes for the “ordinary wheel” and “reversed wheel” could not be more divergent. The former “Let maya flourish and deception rule” – the latter, “Warrior am I and from the battle I emerge triumphant”.
Hercules, initiate of ancient times, battles the nine-headed hydra in the swamp of Lernea.
In other words, the ordinary wheel has dominated for aeons, allowing maya to flourish and deception rule. Partly, because the majority of Humanity has not woken up to their souls – and, due to the fact that they are mired in the proverbial swamp of their/our own making.
Hence – bribery, lies, deceit, propaganda and manipulation are the common currency in business, politics and many other fields of human endeavour. Yet Humanity is slowly starting to emerge from the swamp fog over the past decade, particularly accelerated over the last five years.
And so there is cause for hope, yet the swamp creatures have also doubled down in their efforts to stay in control and pervert Humanity’s dharma. One of the main projects of the “manipulators of souls” is through media propaganda and more recently via AI.
So now we hear the common question, is it real or AI? Which is encouraging – as opposed to the gullible who accept at face value what is seen. Indeed, most of us have been caught out by curated AI illusions that can feed any narrative through almost any individual – with perfect or near perfect lip-sync.
This is because AI can harvest anyone’s image or voice from all internet content, movies, podcasts, zoom meetings etc. This can create many good syntheses on any subject. But also the potential for abuse, where the public can be hoodwinked and anyone attacked by enemies that seek to undermine by making them say something they never said.
Related to this, is the foisting upon the public of digital ID’s and money, that will create even greater control – “digital concentration camps”. Media moguls are now scrambling to influence/mislead public opinion -, with multi-billionaire entrepreneurs such as Larry Ellinson building a media empire with stakes in TikTok, CBS, CNN and more.
But these endeavours will most likely be fruitless, as the world is waking up and standing up to the trickery. In Ellinson’s case, the damage has already been done – regarding his support for the Zionist “aparthocide” in Israel. Public opinion will easily detect any propaganda to the contrary.
The battle for human rights and compassionate values has expanded considerably since Oct.7, 2023. Humanity is starting to become the “world disciple” – warriors pledging themselves in the battle for light to illumine the receding darkness.
Here is the influence of Mars as exoteric and esoteric ruler of Scorpio. The former – satisfaction of all the “appetites”, the latter – entering the battle against the “hordes of Mara” within oneself and in the world.
Scorpio is a sign of illumination where the soul triumphs – the experience in polar opposite Taurus is consummated. Astral glamour is dissipated and soul light pours in. Scorpio is the Path of Discipleship, bearing in mind that the word “discipleship” infers discipline over the lower self,3
Pluto withthis three-headed “hound of hell” Cerberus. Pluto is co-ruler of the 1st ray and here holds a staff the same as Shiva, a 1st ray archteype.
Scorpio is a sign of initiation, hence the great testings that come in our yearly cycle through this sign, as we battle with the unconscious forces within ourselves, with each other and within the planet as a whole; particularly upon the emotional plane, through the desire nature on all levels – sex, power, passion, ideals – emotional attachments to all those things.
Through its Pluto rulership, Scorpio can be the destroyer of all obstacles upon the lighted way, utterly ruthless and highly disciplined in its intent. Or Scorpio can reinforce glamours and illusions by defaulting to the lowest common denominator of Mars and Pluto.
Mars in its esoteric rulership shows us the polarities that exist, allowing the intelligent mind to make a decision to move from the past to the future.
The names of these emotional battles are legion: Regrets over wrong choices; guilt and shame for past actions – conscious or unconscious; anguish and agonies of love lost or hurts caused; the wrenching pain of finishing a relationship or marriage; low self esteem and self-criticism for failure to surmount long term addictions; the fragility and vulnerability of feeling alone in the world; dread or anger of non-acceptance or recognition.
The fears and limitations of aging and sickness; unresolved sexual issues; bitterness from an unreleased past; rage from being misunderstood or ignored; a feeling of a lack of love and tenderness in one’s life; battling the tendency to dominate and manipulate others, and so on.
Dark night of the soul.
All of these conflicts fall under the banner of Scorpio’s nine-headed hydra that Hercules battles in the putrid swamp of Lernea: Physical: Sex, comfort, money. Astral: Fear, hatred, desire for power. Mental: Pride, separativeness and cruelty.
Hercules Humanity is currently locked in a culminating Scorpionic struggle between its lower and higher selves; we are seeing the emergence of the Angel of the Presence, or the soul of Humanity vanquishing its own shadow. Hence, large numbers of Humanity are stepping toward a higher level of unfoldment:
“The keynote of Scorpio is, however, Triumph. This is its major expression upon the physical plane. As a result of struggle and of victory, the whole divine [wo] man – not yet perfectly expressing … is anchored upon the physical plane with such accuracy and clarity that there is no escape from the environing conclusions of the disciple’s family, friends and group that he is a disciple.
From that angle he is meticulously watched; he learns the meaning of the word “example”; he is pilloried by those who are onlookers and the first conscious stages toward group awareness and group response plus group service [Aquarius], are now taken. Such is the outcome and the reward of the experience in Scorpio.”4

Comet 3i Atlas: A Cosmic Avatar?
(See also Comet 3i/ATLAS: An Approaching Avatar? From the Libra newsletter.)
In perfect accord with the lower keynote of Scorpio, much maya has been flourishing regarding this comet – with internet and video speculation rife about a gigantic “mothership”, alien invasion, the comet hitting Earth or Lyran “starseeds returning”.
All of this speculation and in some cases, outright fear-mongering, is a perfect example of maya and the many glamours that have been created around 3i Atlas – while the Sun and Mars have been transiting through Scorpio.
Before picking up on last month’s theme of comets as embodiments of cosmic avatars, let us briefly cover some of the science and astronomy, transcribing from this video (most likely AI):
“On October 29, Comet 3i Atlas reached it perihelion (closest to the Sun), generating “a sudden flare, sharp, geometric and impossibly bright, erupted from 3i Atlas … for 20’, 3i Atlas burned four times brighter than allowed … its orbit slightly shifted … buried in that 20’ spike was an anomaly no one could explain … expected to ride a stable brightening curve as it rounded parhelion, suddenly surged in luminosity by a factor of four …
… the spike lasted 20’ before collapsing into a straight line … Atlas was moving retrograde … against the traffic of the entire solar system … carried the fingerprint of an interstellar nursery …. carbon dioxide dominated its composition far more than any comet ever catalogued …
… resonance with solar magnetic fields … hyperbolic stranger… cosmic messenger from a region of the galaxy where matter is shaped differently, carrying within it the memory of a different star or planetary system …”. (Video follows.)
Perihelion of 3i ATLAS (AI enquiry)
“During this event, the comet’s icy surface rapidly sublimated, creating a bright coma and a visible tail. This transformation occurs as the Sun’s heat causes the solid ice to turn directly into gas.
The comet’s approach to perihelion typically involves complex interactions with solar radiation and solar wind. These interactions can influence the comet’s tail and coma, potentially affecting its trajectory and brightness.
As 3i/ATLAS approached the Sun, it brightened significantly, reaching a magnitude of about 9, making it detectable with a backyard telescope if visible from Earth.
Observations indicated that 3I/ATLAS has a high carbon dioxide to water ratio, which is unusual for comets. This unique composition may play a role in how it interacts with solar magnetic fields.
After perihelion, 3i ATLAS is expected to re-emerge in late November or early December, allowing for further study of its characteristics and any potential magnetic interactions with the Sun. These observations provide valuable insights into the behaviour of interstellar comets and their interactions with solar phenomena.”

In this author’s imagination/intuition, the perihelion of 3i Atlas interacting with Sol (our sun) was like a human sperm seeding the “yolk of the sun” – in the “womb” of the solar system. The surge in luminosity during the 20’ period can be likened to when the human soul connects with the egg at conception.
“Paramhansa Yogananda taught that the soul enters the body at the moment of conception. He described this event as accompanied by a “flash of light” in the astral world when the sperm and ovum unite. This flash signifies the arrival of souls ready to be reborn, who are drawn to this light if their vibrations match.”5
This is mainly true, except as there is no body formed yet, conception is the moment when the soul contacts its future parents, connecting to the recently conceived, fertilised egg within the mother’s womb. Then throughout the succeeding gestation period, the soul occasionally “looks in” on its new adventure into the material realm, finally incarnating fully in the physical body at birth.
A Cosmic Avatar from Sirius or Alcyone?
When considering the possibility that 3i Atlas is the embodiment of a cosmic avatar (described in the Libra newsletter) – as below, so above: Martanda our sun, the “father” of all the planets received a “blessing” from a cometary visitor that was also aligning with the Earth’s ecliptic plane – within 5 degrees.

Is this the intention to become a new planet in the solar system family? Or a very rare alignment with a cosmic avatar from Sirius, regarded esoterically as the higher self of our solar system? Some reminder statements from the recent Libra newsletter on 3i Atlas:
“The planets were all comets and suns in their origin – the sons of light clothed themselves in the fabric of darkness. They all have a common origin.
Centres of Forces at first, the invisible sparks of primordial atoms differentiate into molecules, and become Suns—passing gradually into objectivity—gaseous, radiant, cosmic, the one “Whirlwind” (or motion) finally giving the impulse to the form, and the initial motion, regulated and sustained by the never-resting Breaths—the Dhyan Chohans.
The assertion that all the worlds (Stars, planets, etc.) … become first comets, and then Suns to cool down to inhabitable worlds, is a teaching as old as the Rishis. The birth of the celestial bodies in Space is compared to a crowd or multitude of “pilgrims” at the festival of the “Fires.” Seven ascetics appear on the threshold of the temple with seven lighted sticks of incense.”6

Hence, the real possibility that this vital and living entity – comet 3iAtlas, is the vehicle of an Avatar passing through this solar system, giving our little planet some awe-inspiring stimulation via the arousal of cosmic curiosity! (This does not exclude other comets either.)
It is said that the Doctrine of Avatars gives the most satisfying answers to a Humanity that is constantly questioning its existence. There are various levels of Avatars, from the cosmic to the Christ or Buddha:
“Cosmic Avatars: They represent embodied force from the following cosmic centres among others:
1. Sirius. [2nd aspect – Love-Wisdom] Higher self to our solar system and the main path taken by liberated humanity.
2. That one of the seven stars of the Great Bear which is ensouled by the prototype of the Lord of our third major Ray. [1st aspect – Will-Power]
3. Our cosmic centre. [3rd aspect Active-Intelligence] “Our solar system has Alcyone in the Pleiades for the centre of its orbit.”7

They represent entities as far removed from the consciousness of Man, as man is from the consciousness of the atom of substance. Thousands of those great cycles which we call “a hundred years of Brahma” have passed since They approximated the human stage, and They embody force and consciousness which is concerned with the intelligent co-ordination of the starry Heavens.
They have achieved all that man can conceive of as the transcendence of will, of love and of intelligence, and in the synthesis of those three have added qualities and vibrations for which we have no terms, and which cannot be visioned by even our highest adepts.
Their appearance in a solar system is very unusual, and is only recognised on the highest two planes. Yet, owing to the material nature of our solar system, Their advent is literally the appearance in a physical form of a spiritual Being Who is fully conscious. [Hence 3i Atlas as a harbinger/messenger announcing the return of Christ.]
Such entities from Sirius appear at the occasion of the initiation of the solar Logos [our sun] … Only once has such a Being visited our system, in connection with the appearance in time and space of the five mind-born Sons of Brahma.
The effect of such a visit as that of the Avatar from Sirius is seen as the sumtotal of civilisation and culture, viewing these from the standpoint of the entire system and in one flash of time.”
Alcyone
An avatar from the cosmic centre [Alcyone] will appear as pralaya [interlude] is nearing and will produce in the body of the Logos that which we call “Death.” He is the cosmic Reaper, and (to reduce the above to words of an understandable nature) He belongs to a group which represents the abstracting energy of the cosmos, of which we find faint correspondences in the work of the “destroyer” aspect of the Logos, and in the forces which produce physical death, and the disintegration of the physical body of man.”8
Given that 3i Atlas is a rare interstellar visitor – only the third ever recorded, it is highly likely that this comet is either a cosmic or solar avatar. Possibly the highest kind of avatar – cosmic, and which might be from Sirius or Alcyone. (Other passages pertaining to these solar avatars are very interesting, but there is neither the time nor space to analyse them in this missive!). Hence, so far in this author’s speculation:
Sirius – Scorpio is one of the seven signs associated with the forces of this brightest star in our night sky. 3i Atlas’ perihelion and “solar seeding” with our Sun was during Scorpio:
“Scorpio is under the influence or inflowing energy of Sirius. This is the great star of initiation because our Hierarchy (an expression of the 2nd aspect of divinity) is under the supervision or spiritual magnetic control of the Hierarchy of Sirius.
These are the major controlling influences whereby the cosmic Christ works upon the Christ principle in the solar system, in the planet, in man and in the lower forms of life expression. It is esoterically called the “brilliant star of sensitivity” …
Scorpio is the great constellation which influences the turning point both in the life of humanity and the life of the individual human being. For the first time in the history of both mankind and disciples the energy of Sirius, pouring into the seven groups which form our planetary Hierarchy evokes a response.”9

Hence, the perihelion event of 3i Atlas interacting with our Sun is replete with possibilities!
Alcyone – “The Star of the Individual—governing humanity.” 3i ATLAS is a rare interstellar comet, discovered on July 1, 2025 – only the third known interstellar object to pass through our solar system. The horoscope for this date sees Uranus closely conjunct Alcyone in the Pleiades!

“The Pleiades are the central group of the system of sidereal astronomy.
- They are found in the neck of the Bull, the constellation Taurus.
- They are therefore in the Milky Way. [“Comet 3i ATLAS originated from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius – near the Milky Way’s Galactic Center.” In the tropical zodiac, Sagittarius 26° is generally acknowledged to be the galactic centre.]
- They are thus considered (Alcyone, in particular) as the central point around which our universe of fixed stars revolves.”10
- Solar Avatars: These avatars are of three types, though there are really many more. They are also extra-systemic visitors, and are mainly concerned with certain processes in the system, among others the administration of the law of cause and effect, or of karma.
… Another type of solar avatar, Who can be seen appearing in the schemes, has relation to the heart centre of a planetary Logos, and appears on the higher planes (never on the lower) when the heart activity is making itself felt, and when the energising process is seen to bring about three things:
- An expansion of consciousness.
- An increase of spiritual light and brilliancy.
- Planetary radioactivity.
It is this planetary phenomenon which produces (in connection with the fourth kingdom in nature) the throwing open of the door of initiation to man. Such avatars do not come in connection with any particular Hierarchy but only in relation to the total system.
They produce the blending of the colours, and the synthesis of the units in their groups.”11
Regarding “the law of cause and effect, or of karma” in this passage, we know that Saturn is one of the four lords (planets) of karma. There is a large hexagonal pattern of a persistent cloud formation located at its north pole, characterized by its six-sided shape and jet stream winds moving at about 320 km/h (200 mph).12

One feature observed with 3i ATLAS includes a hexagonal pattern in its emissions which may be related to its interactions with the surrounding environment. Hence these correspondences may be quite meaningful regarding a karmic reckoning for portions of Humanity, and/or Initiation – “throwing open of the door of initiation to man.”
